I have a 92 with a clean title but my vin # is only 8 numbers. Does anyone know why? My title, registration and side of door have the same number.

The plates on the door sills only have the last eight characters of the VIN, identifying the model year and serial number. If that's all that's on your title, you might want to ask your state's DMV if they can edit their records to indicate the full VIN.
The full VIN can be seen through the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side, on the back wall of the engine compartment, and on a sticker visible with the driver's door open:
