does anyone have a good location for the V1 remote display? something that looks nice and not jury-rigged? i was thinking about using a dremel tool on the bottom ridges in the ashtray to get it to fit and then running the wire from behind...

has anyone else already solved this challenge in a clean, nice way? i've already looked at the FAQ but didn't see anything that looked good...

thanks,

the valentine one is great... it saved me at least 2 tickets on my drive from san francisco to houston. and it has already saved me at least one driving here in houston... highly recommended...

now if someone would just make a suggestion as to my original question...

Not a great place, but mine is immediately in front of the odometer.

thanks in advance...

I would think the ash tray would be a pretty good place for a V1 remote display... you can flip it shut in case you ever do get pulled over.

Where are you planning to put the main unit? It needs pretty much 360 degree access to enemy signals to work correctly. I've got mine stuck to the window just over the mirror on the drivers side. Any lower and it wouldn't get very good rear visibility.

I really love the bogey counter and direction feature, I can't imagine degrading that by mounting it low or in outside in the grill.

i bought a dali racing mount that places it in the rear window at the right height to see both front and back. the pic of it looks cool... i just hope mark gets it to me soon... i've read the comments on the other thread about his sometimes slow service although the first thing i bought from him came in about 3 days.

I bought the DALI mount the day it was on the site and got it two days later.. I installed it, along with the remote audio adapter in the ashtray and the remote display on the dash column centered slightly blocking the part of the HUD that shows which doors are open.
I opted for this location of the display because IMO, putting the display in the ashtray would have been way to inconvenient and distracting. I can see the arrows out of the corner of my eyes without bending my head.
Another nice convenience is that you can open the tray and turn the unit on/off from there. Been pulled over 4 times and cops never spotted the V1 to date.. (I was paced twice, and twice for expired registration)
I ran the wire from the display behind the dash column and under the console. I spliced the power supply to the clock.
I destroyed the back of the ashtray with a crude dremel so i could fit the wires through, but you can't see it so go figure. Let me know if you want to see some pics...

boy would i love to see some photos! thanks for the offer...

do you think the remote audio is worth it? since the main unit is going to be right next to my right ear, i would think it's just something extra to place... but i could be wrong...

Why not just hard wire it to the fuse box in front and run the wire up the side pillar and have about 4" free at the top near the sunvisor ? Then you can just visor mount the V1 and plug it in. Whenn you park and leave the car, you can just unplug it and stick it in the glovebox (it does fit by the way).

Sorry about the pics, been real busy lately... hopefully i can do it tonight. I haven't had any rear detection problems on mine, and my installation (albiet im an amature) looks very clean. The problem with the dali mount in the absence of the remote audio is that its a pain in the ass to adjust the volume/ turn the unit on off. The remote audio in the ashtray kicks ass, and looks cool too....

you should mount the remote display under your registration sticker you can run the wire through the lip in front of it
you cant see it from outside and the reg sticker acts as a visor
good luck
