My cigarette lighter is not working. I checked all the interior fuses and everything looks alright. All other electronics in the car are working, even the light inside the ashtry and around the lighter. Just nothing I plug in works. Any ideas?

try the patch or gum....that helps!

I figured that's why you were asking, but I couldn't resist. Hope you get it worked out and sorry I can't help.

Hey Norm,

Well if I did not see it I would not have believed it. The cig lighter power supply involves 2 fuses, the ignition switch, and a relay. Go figure!! Go to page 23-226 in the on line service manual.

It is fuse #12 in the main box, fuse #3 in the dash box, a relay and the accessory circuit in the ignition switch. It sounds like you checked fuse #3 in the dash box. Be sure and check all fuses with an ohm meter, rather then just visually. They can fool you.

I am thinking the relay or fuse #3 have the highest likelyhood for your problem. That is assuming it is ONLY the lighter that does not work. You could check a few other accessories, if a few are out, then fuse#12 or the ignition switch may be it.

Good Luck

The lighter has a solderable fuse that will cause the lighter to not work if it comes undone. Most commonly from people holding down the lighter longer than it should. You may want to check the lighter with a voltmeter first, then check this fuse if everything is narrowed out. You'll need to remove the center console trim to get to it, as it's located behind the lighter socket.

best of luck,

Chris,

Good tidbit. Do you know if this is only in the later models?? I ask since I do not see it schematically in the 1991 manual. But... the 1991 manual is a little lacking for sure :)

Thanks,

A great tip - this is exactly the one that went out in my car recently, and I know what killed it: about ten minutes of running a portable air compressor plugged into the cigarette lighter. The center console had to be removed for access.:frown:

It was true for my 1994 sir.

The good news is that it is fixed now!

I had similar problems and upon removal of the console, and inspection of the lighter unit I found that the wire to the unit had broken. A quick solder job and it was fixed.

Maximus_NSX had the same problem on this 03. After discovering that someone else removed the console to install shift kit, it just had a simple lose connection. Try and remove your console cover and check the connections to the lighter. I think there is two connectors- re-connect them.
