Chroming stock '02 wheels

hello to all! Just checked with my local dealer, who informed me that since the '02 stock wheels are painted, he cannot recomment having them polished, as he doesn't know how the base of the wheel would accept polishing after the paint is removed....He suggested chroming them, but added that, if not done properly, chroming of an alloy wheel can bubble at the wheel bead, and can cause leakage after 5-10 years of use...So I seek the advise of fellow NSX'ers, as to your recommendations for chroming, and if anyone is aware of a reliable chrome plating shop in the Redondo Beach (Los Angeles) area..Many thanks for taking the time to reply..

I had my aftermarket wheels (which originally came with paint on them)polished and chromed about 5 years ago. Never had a problem and still get compliments on them. I used Al Reed Polishing in Anaheim, as have several other NSX owners that I am familiar with. Phone # is 714-632-3907.

I have no interest in this business other than being a satisfied cutomer.

Check with Wesco Wheels. I have used them on all my cars and have recommended them to several NSX'ers and friends with excellent results. They offer a unheard of 2 year guarantee on their chroming. Turn around time on the wheels(unless they have them in stock, then you would just do an straight exchange) is 10 working days. I only offer them as a recommendation and have no affiliation with them, only great results and service.

I think the proper term is "West Side Connection".

Yeah, too bad you don't live in Florida, where there's a location of Wheels America that can fix wheels and chrome wheels and probably polish wheels.

Uh, I do live in Florida.

That's called "sarcasm". It's supposed to be funny. Funny because you CAN get most of the same services in Florida that those in Southern California can get.

They're still better at conducting elections, though.

Probably in South Fl. they offer some of that stuff. But we all know that Cali is where it is at.

We suck at the election thing for sure !

Wheel might leak after you remove the paint. but not after 5~10 years. You can have your painted wheel polish but you need to polish them when you wash your car to keep the wheel shine. remove paint and chrome will take about 2 weeks. If you can leave your car with out wheel that long e-mail me I know all the chrome plater in LA.

As the original poster, I would like to thank everyone for their input..It seems that the overwhelming majority of those I have spoken to favor chroming over polishing of the wheels..I am a bit concerned by one tire shop that said I would need to rechrome every 5 years...I have a '97 Lexus with chrome wheels that are still like new...So I am concerned that chroming over alloy wheels will not be as durable...Anyway, I will check the shops mentioned on this topic, however, I am hoping before I do so, that someone may know a reputable shop closer to my home in the Redondo Beach/Torrance area...In any event, all input is much appreciated...

There's a lot of good information about chroming vs polishing in the FAQ here.

If it were my wheels, I would have them polished, not chromed. Just my O.
