They've been doing this in Fresno for probably about 10 years now. They show up in a big 20 something foot long enclosed trailer. It was "random" smog check and inspection.
I think "The Fast and the Furious" had a part in it.

I just got stopped at a checkpoint exactly like this in Rancho Palos Verdes/Torrance on Hawthorne Blvd a few months ago. Fortunately I was driving my bone stock Audi at the time.

I remember something like that YEARS ago on Shaw avenue.... I think it was where the Acura and Chevy dealership is/was.
I passed through one of these last year in the city of Covina. Luckily I was signaled to just pass on through. I don't like these random smog checks.
