i have 93 gpw with 02+ wheels without any other mods...not lowered etc...i think i need to replace back tires and want to know which is the best..i know that is subjective but i am embarrassed to admit that i put less then 500 miles on a year (one of the downfalls of working within walking distance of office and living in new york)...so i don't need extreme performance or price...right not it has original oem rubber..any thoughts and thanks

when i replace the ones i have now it will be with the Direnzza star spec tires. they were on my last 05 and i really liked them. my new 05 has new yokohamas so i will have to wait on changing them.

U drive the NSX in the rain?

If not the Nitto NT05, Dunlop Z1 star spec are among a few of my favorites for extreme traction tires in the dry. they do OK in mild rain.

Since you never drive it then definitely get something grippy in the extreme summer category.

RE-11, Z1, XS, RS3, etc.

RE-11 are good too.

The XS did drone towards the end.

I love RE-11's so much, I have had multiple sets on my track car.. They're so grippy that I normally don't even bother to throw on my RA-1's. Plus I have had no problem in adverse conditions.

I have heard the same rave reviews in regards to the Z1's but I have yet to try them personally.

I put XS's on my NSX recently but I don't really drive it like an animal on public roads. I do know that they're quiet though!

This is funny! The guy says he doesn't need extreme performance, so everyone then recommends extreme performance tires for him!

RE-11 are the best IMHO in the Extreme traction category. Unlike the Z1 and some of the other ones, they dun get greasy in aggressive driving in the heat and do very well in the rain.

The XS were quiet at first for me then towards the end they started to howl and drone. Sidewalls are softer for a more comfy ride. It did grip great on the G force turns. Not as responsive as the NT05, re-11 and Z1 on the steering response though.

I normally wouldn't suggest such, but when he's only driving 500 miles a year he might as well get a tire that will be worth the while before it dry rots.

Mark (the previous owner of my 99 NSX-T) raved about the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires (205/45-16 fronts, and 245/40-17 for the rears) that nsxtasy recommended to him. Now that I have the car and the back tires need to be replaced (the fronts still have plenty of tread), I'm staying with the Continentals. I don't need extreme tires as I don't track my car, I just want something that will perform well, is long lasting, and won't slip in the occasional wet weather that I may encounter. :)

Check out the Yokohama S.Drive. They're fairly inexpensive, have good performance, and last quite a while. I have them on my car now but just ordered some Star Specs to replace them. If you don't have 400hp the s.drives should provide plenty of traction.

+1 semi agree, Lets put it this way, if you're NOT going to drive your nsx that much, don't bother putting on anything too expensive. The S Drive will do the job. However, at a drivers point of view, sorry to be a little offensive, but the S Drive is crap. Sure it'll get you around town, sure it'll last longer compared to any of the other extreme performance recommendations above, but the NSX was never designed to run on mediocre tires.

As an NSX owner, even if i can only put 500miles onto it per year, i still want the best driving experience out of it and tires definately plays a HUGE part. If it's only a hundred or two dollars difference, i definately will not cheap out. We understand you don't need some extreme r-compounds, but do consider the ones listed above =) they are all very awesome.

here's a couple ones I will recommend for you wheels. in no order preferences:

Bridgestone RE-11, Yokohama AD08, Dunlop Direzza Z1 star spec, Falken RT615k, Toyo R1R, continental DWS.

Try searching the forum also, there has been tons of discussion concerning tire choices for oem wheels. Happy shopping and good luck!

I'm guessing you meant to say the Continental ExtremeContact DW, which is a maximum performance summer tire, and not the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, which is an all-season tire and, other than in winter conditions, won't even grip as well as the so-so S.drive.
