EXTREMELY INTERESTING: A young Ukrainian woman has posted a photo journal of her motorcycle rides through Chernobyl and the area surrounding it. Included are pictures of the now-emptied city, maps of current radiation levels, and a discussion of how the area has changed. Her English is rough, but it's understandable.

True, her english may not be that well, but good enough to where this just says it all:

a new beginning

People had to leave everything, from photos of their grandparents to cars. Their clothes, cash and passports has been changed by state authorities. This is incredible, people lived, had homes, country houses, garages, motorcyles, cars, money, friends and relatives, people had their life, each in own niche and then in a matter of hours this world fall in pieces and everything goes to dogs and after few hours trip with some army vehicle one stands under some shower, washing away radiation and then step in a new life, naked with no home, no friends, no money, no past and with very doubtful future.

Amazing find Neo!

That was extremely cool to see. I didn't know much about the story until I did a little research.

Hi

Thanks for the link. Must have been very strange to ride throug a empty town like that.

Regards

This is scray stuff. Some photos look just like there had been a nuclear war. A friend recently told me that there is a battle looming in Virginia regarding proposed reactors being built in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Anyone aware of this?
On the other hand, I was at James Madison University in Virginia a few weekends ago attending a seminar on wind power and solar energy. I can't understand why anyone in their right mind would push nukes when these other environmentally friendly options are available. One interesting point made by the DOE scientist giving the lecture was that if the roof of every big box store, ie Home Depot, Target, etc, were covered with solar panels, even at today's technology levels, there would be enough electricity produced to satisfy the needs of the entire country.

Really interesting site.
I just hope mankind learns from it's mistakes.
