I'm at The Dragon and have some videos to share with the community. I hope you have as much watching them as I did driving.

This is a northbound run starting at Crossroads Of Time. Shot on 11/3/09 just before 11am.

Part 1 of 2.

Nice videos. Part I = Part II.
One question: The double yellow line on the street, what is their purpose? Do they serve as a recommendation where to drive about or is it forebidden to cross them? The SUV crossed them several times very excesssively.

Ooooops! I screwed up. It's fixed. For everyone's entertainment, here is the return/southbound run.

Yea the double yellow line means no passing... and you have to stay within your lane or you can get a failure to maintain lane violation if the cop is having a bad day. :)

But on a road like this its easy to want to cross into the other lane b/c you want to hit the apex right? lol

What about if he's having a good day? I'd be a little bit worried about having to cross the double line myself also if an approaching SUV in my lane is forcing me to it.

true but in that area (southeast US) the cops don't have much else better to do than pull you over for even the most minor infraction... :)

And yea if you notice the first vid, the SUV let him pass on the right... but not the safest way to do it IMO!

The first time I ever drove on the Dragon was at night (my niece lives in Robbinsville). I recall one switchback that was about 200 degrees in course reversal. You are doing a pretty brisk pace, you must be familiar with the road.

I feel your pain...my NSX has been in the shop for two weeks for an automatic transmission rebuild. :frown:

Get it back yet?

'84 Aspencade? I think I had the same bike. Is that the gold 50th anniversary Wing. I still use that roll up toolkit from it!

I got the NSX back a week ago - for $3500 - but it is shifting smooth and running great. For anyone needing a recommendation for an independent shop to rebuild their NSX automatic transmission in the Washington, DC area, I recommend Hi-Tech Transmissions Inc. in Merrifield, Virginia.

1984 was the first year for the Honda Gold Wing GL1200, and it was available in three trim levels: Standard (no fairings, saddlebags, or trunk), Interstate (fairing, saddlebags, and trunk, analog instrumentation, no stereo or other accessories), and Aspencade (fairing, saddlebags, trunk, digital instrumentation, AM/FM/Cassette stereo, and air ride suspension. CB radio and intercom were optional). The one you are thinking of is the 1985 Honda Gold Wing LTD (10th year Limited Edition), which was Honda's flagship touring motorcycle with all the bells and whistles, including auto-leveling air suspension and an onboard computer on the false tank. The 1985 LTD was also the first Honda motorcycle sold with fuel injection, and the only one that year - the rest of Honda's lineup still had carbs like my 1984 Aspencade. I also have the rollup toolkit.

For 1984-1987, the Aspencade, LTD, and SEi Gold Wings were all equipped with digital instrumentation, and the latter two models were equipped with fuel injection and an onboard computer. So how well are these electronics holding up after a quarter century? Still stone reliable! Notice that the average age of my Honda "fleet" listed below is 1989 - I don't own any other cars or motorcycles. For anyone interested in a vintage Honda touring motorcycle, I would recommend a 1987 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade, a 1986 Honda Gold Wing Sei, or a 1985 Honda Gold Wing LTD. I consider those three to be "best of breed" for the GL1200. Of the three, I would give a slight edge to the 1985 Honda Gold Wing LTD, by virtue of it having fuel injection, being loaded with options, and the color scheme is a little better than the 1986 SEi, which was only available in white two-tone. When shopping for a GL1200, just buy one in the nicest condition you can find - it will be cheaper in the long run than a fixer-upper.

goldNSX, in honor of my 1000th post on NSXPrime, I posted this video just for you. This is the same road ("Tail of the Dragon") that Hugh videotaped above. After you watch the first video, look at some of the others that appear along the bottom of the first one. For even more entertainment, search "Tail of the Dragon", "Deals Gap", or "Trucks on the Dragon" on Youtube.
