Charging battery through cigarette lighter

Can this be done? I want to buy a BMW 1.25 amp charger to periodically charge the NSX through the cigarette lighter.

It cannot be done on a stock nsx but if you modify the cig-lighter so that it is directly wired to the battery and fused properly Yes it will work. I dont know why you would want to go thru all of that when you can just get a trickle charger which mounts under the front hood and plugs in when you need it. Its the same thing but only wired direct from the front under the hood instead of running a cord to plug in the bmw charger in the car then sending current thru the stock wiring.

Thanks. I tested the cigarette lighter last month and it worked but the car must have been running. I checked it to see if the phone fuse was blown.
I only got the idea of using the cigarette lighter yesterday. I will have to use a charger hooked to the battery like I did last year. It's safe and we know it works. One small problem is the O-ring on one of my Schumacher chargers fell off so I have to make sure the other O-rings don't fall off also. That and being lazy, plus it's cold out-side, led me to look at other ways of keeping the battery charged. It's been 10 days since running so I need to get a charger on it soon.

A couple of years ago the NSX would not start around this time of year so I put the charger on it and it started fine in the spring. Same battery is still in the car and it starts after sitting for 2 weeks or so.

The BMW charger is a bit expensive for what it is. If you can spend about 30 minutes running a low voltage lighting wire from your battery to your front bumper, then you might want to checkout this thread. The Battery Tender Plus is only $40 at www.mawonline.com and the Junior is only $20.95. For that 30 minutes you'll spend running the wire, you'll have a very clean and easy setup everytime you need to keep your car charged. 10 seconds to get your car plugged in. No running power cables to the interior of the car for the cigarette adapter should you choose to modify yours.

Easy fix take it to any decent audio shop and they can crimp or if you want it to last soilder on another ring connector and while your at it get the other side done and it should last you the next few years if not more.
