I have a 1992 NSX (Stock). I'm planning on installing a new OEM clutch. I'm trying to figure out how difficult that is to do yourself. Has anyone done it? I'm guessing I would need a few special tools (according to the service manual). I'd like to hear some feedback as to whether or not this is such a bright idea from those who know of its difficulty. Mike/Connecticut.

Madbox,

How many clutches have you installed in the past?

if you don't know what your doing you will save your self money by getting it done by a good tech. If not done correctly you can have several problems like vibrations, chatter, popping out off gear at high speed, premature wear. those are just a few. Your choice.

Madbox,

Not only do you not want to do it, you don't want anybody who hasn't done ten + _successfully_ do it, so do your research well. This is one left to the "experienced". I've done 5 clutches on various cars and I wouldn't think about it. But then again, my warranty sucks.

Its not too difficult a job, it just takes time. I've done both my 95 and a friend's 91. 10 hours on a garage floor should not be unexpected as there is a lot to disassemble. Getting the tranny out and new clutch in is easy enough with one person. Getting the tranny back in is really good to have two people. One to jack and push, the other to align.

You will need a clutch alignment tool, and maybe a flywheel holder/turner thingy although this can be done with a breaker bar on the front pulley nut.

The 91 service manual says to separate the ball joints to get the driveshafts out. My 95 manual says to detach the lower arms from the subframe, which is much easier, IMO. Just mark the camber wheels before removing and put them back accordingly.

I appreciate the feedback. I figured it would be more involved than average but not too difficult. The cars garaged for a few months (northeast) so I'll think about it for a while. Thanks again everyone for the feedback.
