I have a really annoying rattle on my '91 center console/handbrake area. Appears to be coming from the passenger side of the console. If I put my hand between the passenger seat and center console and press against the console, it goes away. Any ideas on fixing this? (other than one-handed driving? ;) )

I don't think it's the fan for the sensor. If you're talking about the center storage area behind the hand brake or in that area, then I suggest you take it out but removing the screws and checking for a lose setting on the hand brake or lose screws in that area. It's separate from the main console by the stick shift and will come out easily. There are four screws under the bottom tray of the storage box which can be reached after you lift that bottom out using a very thin screwdriver. Once that is out everything becomes very obvious in what you can check and retighten. The handbrake should go up 14 clicks if it's adjusted right and your rear brake pads are in good shape. Good luck.

The rattle is not in the fan area. Much further back along the handbrake. I'll try your method and see what I come up with. Thanks.
