Taking a 3000 mile drive cross country, need some kickin' good tunes to keep me awake, any suggestions?

I've been listening to the following a lot lately:

DJ Encore
some of the Phish Live CDs
Big Head Todd & the Monsters (live)
Jimmy Buffett (a must)
Garbage (multiple CDs)
Lenny Kravitz (multiple CDs)
Live (multiple CDs)
Eminem (multiple CDs)

Tracks Great for Road Trips:

* Bad to the Bone (George Thorogood)
* "Chatterbox" (from the game GTA3)
* Hey Girl Hey Boy (The Chemical Brothers)
* Almost any album from the 1970's will keep you awake & screaming. ;)

The new Matrix Reloaded Soundtrack is probably not recommended if you're freeway driving... :p

Honest suggestion: get some classical music from Romantic Era (eg. Tchaikovsky) which is dramatic & stuff... will keep you relaxed & alert but without falling asleep like Bach's music.

I like everything except for rap. So far I have accumulated the following:

*U2 - Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum
*Metallica - ...And Justice for All and Master of Puppets
*G&R - Appetite for Destruction
*New Order - The best collection
*Vivaldi's Four Seasons

Also bringing my entire Bjork Collection!

I think I may disagree a bit about the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack. I think it'd be a great road trip CD. Personally, I really like compilation/sountrack CDs for road trips, because they provide a lot of variety on one disc.

A couple of good road trip sountracks are-

Tomb Raider- Lots of great electronic tunes
Pulp Fiction- A classic
Natural Born Killers- Runs the gamut, Trent Reznor masterpiece
Lost Highway- All's I can say is.....Rammstein!
Repo Man- Best soundtrack I own, period.

The first Matrix sountrack is good, too, and I'd recommend the Reloaded soundtrack as well

Anyway, if I'm driving long distances, I'd mix at least a couple of new CDs in the mix with the tried and true ol' favorites.

I'm also pretty eclectic in my musical tastes, but I try to have upbeat CDs in my car when I'm driving.

Some of my fave non-soundtracks for road trips-

AC/DC- For Those About to Rock...We Salute You
Anthrax- Sound of White Noise
Bad Brains- I Against I
Beastie Boys- Anthology or License to Ill
Chemical Brothers- Exit Planet Dust
The Cramps- Gravest Hits, Bad Music For Bad People
Crystal Method- Vegas
Danzig- 4
Def Leppard- High N' Dry, Pyromania
Depeche Mode- Violator, Music For The Masses
D.I.- Ancient Artifacts
Faith No More- Angel Dust or Album of the Year
Fluke- Risotto
KMFDM- Angst
Lords Of Acid- Lust
Megadeth- Peace Sells, But Who's Buying? or So Far, So Good...So What?
Metallica- Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning, or Kill 'Em All
Ministry- The Land of Rape and Honey, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Psalm 69
Minor Threat- Discography
Moby- Animal Rights, I Like to Score, Play, or any remix CDs of Go!
Mike Ness- Under the Influences
Nine Inch Nails- The Downward Spiral, Further Down The Sprial
Paul Oakenfold- Bunkka, Perfecto! Presents Another World
Oingo Boingo- Greatest Hits
Pailhead- Trait
Pantera- Vulgar Display of Power
Pro-Pain- Best of
Rammstein- Sensucht, Mutter
Schubert- Unfinished Symphony
Sick of it All- Scratch The Surface, Yours Truly
Skinny Puppy- Rabies
Slayer- South of Heaven, God Hates Us All, Reign In Blood
Smashing Pumpkins- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Siamese Dream
Social Distortion- Prison Bound, Mainliner, and White Light, White Heat, White Trash.
Suicidal Tendencies- Join the Army
Underworld- Second Toughest in the Infants or Dubnobasswithmyheadman
Vivaldi- The Four Seasons
W.A.S.P.- Greatest hits
White Zombie- Astro Creep 2000, Supersexy Swingin' Sounds
Rob Zombie- American Made Songs to Strip By, Hellbilly Deluxe
Zakk Wylde- Sonic Brew

If I get really bored and I'm in the middle of nowhere, AM talk radio can provide some real entertainment. I've been pretty tired on some trips and have really been able to wake up after laughing my ass off at some of the commentary on the AM dial.

Chuck

Sir Mix A Lot - "Baby Got Back" (though it's different type of back..heh) :D

I like the new Evanescense CD. Dream Theater is good if you like Progressive Heavy Rock thing with long ass CDs. Also Jazz makes good driving music...Coltrane "Blue Train" is nice....so are Joshua Redman, McCoy Tyner, The Marsailis family etc etc etc.

.err... just clarifying my above comment was joke... dont listen to it if you're driving on freeways or one of the following might occur to your car:
1) an agent might jump on the frontend - crushing it.
2) you be involved in a spectacular multi-car pile up.
3) an agent might assume control of your body.
4) more realistically, u might get a speeding ticket from being so psyched up from the music.

i have the Reloaded OST... awesome stuff, especially the chateau track.
