CD-R in OEM CD Changer Question

My 95 OEM CD Changer plays normal CDs fine, but it has problem reading some of the CD-Rs especially when the CD changer is cold. When the CD changer warms up after a couple of hours, it starts playing some of the CD-Rs fine.

This problem has developed only recently. I played CD-Rs without any problems before.

Any suggestion?

my factory cd changer has no problem with cd-r's.
i use the silver/gold type. they cost a little bit more, but you do get a better quality cd.

Thanks for the response.

In fact, my OEM CD changer did play CD-Rs very well until now. I am just curious why it's not playing the same ones well all of a sudden... :(

Is it possible the CD-Rs have been left in the sun? The dye in them can degrade and the error rates go thru the roof. Also, aging will do the same thing.

FYI, blue/purple CD-Rs work fine in my stock changer.

FYI - I've got all different colors of CD-Rs in my trunk changer for the last 6 months and haven't had any playback problems.

Thanks for your help, guys.

Unfortunately, they are regular CD-Rs with silver color bottom. My Audi plays those CD-Rs without any problems currently, and my NSX could play them without any problems a couple of weeks ago.

I will just play with it, and eventually replace the changer.

Again, thanks a lot!

It can get really hot in the trunk -- hot enough to affect the dye on the CD-R. Especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust with no heat shield.

hehe

My cd changer plays 8-tracks, and reel-to-reels, but no CD-rs :(

PS: for those of you who are gonna hit me with "where can I get one".......I'm just kidding

I know for a fact that earlier models of Alpine changers and face units did not play CD-R's of any make color or model very well at all.

This what I noticed when I did still have that crappy BOSE/ALPLINE crap in my car. :(

CD-R's would play fine when unit warmed up, but sounds like stattic when reaching the half-way point to the end on a 74Min CD.

I also found that when I had changed the original OEM Acura to Alpine warranty replacement. The updated Alpine works 100times better than Stock.

I found that Kodak Gold Ulitima CD-R's making sure you finalized your CD correctly worked fine only got slight problems stattic on last few tracks and the odd time where it takes a few mins to switch between tracks.

In the end upgrade to an in Dash Player it well worth it.

That's nothing. I've got a turn-table in my trunk. :)
It sucks going through potholes though.
