CD "data noises" from L speaker after SmarTenna removal

Hi.

After much soul searching ( and a good deal of swearing ) I decided to remove the SmarTenna device from my 1993 NSX.

You may recall that the initial installation was troublesome and even when the device worked ( in terms of the antenna staying down when CDs were played ) the music was spoiled by breakthru interference from the engine - rev your engine whilst tuned to a weak and distant AM station and you'll get the idea.

Since I removed the device, the interference has faded.

However, since the device was installed and removed, when a CD is selected by the autochanger in the boot instead of silence before the music starts the L channel emits a series of rumbles, then a series of beeps rather like a fax machine or modem's initial data stream, then the music starts. When skipping forward from track to track the rumble is audible but the modem chatter is not.

Somewhere along the way the phase changing cable ( used to allow the connection of an aftermarket Alpine CD changer to the Honda-Acura head unit ) has burned out and will need replacement - when it's connected the L channel is lost altogether.

At present I'm stuck listening to R channel only via both speakers - connecting the CD changer directly to the Acura head unit without the phase changer.

To make things even worse the alarm system failed this morning! The transmitter transmits as normal but the alarm doesn't sense it. Using the hidden key the alarm arms and performs normally. Logic tells me that this is mere coincidence.

The radio and cassette system work fine, so I doubt this is an amplifier failure ( but round about now nothing would surprise me! ) - I'm trying to source a replacement phase shifting cable in the UK and the car's going to Audio & Alarm repairers on Friday morning for an assessment.

Anybody had similar experiences with the CD player playing computer data before the music starts? What was the solution?

Another Reason Stock is Best!

I think the problem is in your aftermarket cable or CD player.

I've installed several SmarTennas on stock NSX sound systems and NEVER had a problem. So check the components that are not stock.

Remember stock is best!
