ok.... i just got a S620 changer for my 1991 NSX.... hooked it up and it works perfectly....

my question is about mounting it in the car... does it have to be mounted in any specific way? with my stereo amp and crossover installation i figured i would just mount it into the fake wall i am building...

does the changer have to be mounted flat or can it be upright, etc?

I don't know if this helps or not but...

the Honda/Acura factory optional CD changes is mounted in the trunk on the passenger side. the kit that is used to mount the changer has it mounted vertical but it swings down to the horizontal position to faciliate loading/unloading of the magazine.

so... it's kind of a little of both.

Personally, I would mount it in a final position and try it out for a while before I put all that effort into a fake wall install.

FWIW - I purchased a Alpine CD changer to replace my stock one and installed it into the factory brackets. The changer skipped when positioned horizontally, but tracks well when locked into the vertical position.

When I had my changer in the car originally it was fixed-mounted horizontally.

I think the problem with the OEM bracket, when left in the "down" (horizontal) position is that it is not rigid & will bounce on the hinge. It is only locked when vertical.
There should be no problems with mounting horizontally and indeed the installation guide for the CHM-S620 specifically discusses this:

From CHM-S620 install guide:

I have a "Factory" Changer in my trunk - I once forgot to flip it up and learned this:
1) Skips like hell when not vertical
2) Skips like purgatory when vertical

You'd think Acura would have a unit with a decent read ahead buffer (like what you get in a $99 diskman) in a 2003 High-end car - NO!

Honestly, the factory unit only skips when you hit a pothole, bump, etc. not in "normal driving" but it IS sh%tty that it skips at all!

I'm going with an iPod in the trunk instead - easier and cheaper, bigger better.

Wanna buy an Acura Factory CD with the brackets?
