has anyone attempted to dye their interior carpets? i have ivory that doesn't get as clean as i would like. i have it removed and 3 bottles of RIT ready to roll, but i thought i'd ask before i make a grave mistake.

any input would be appreciated!

Hmm,

I personally would stay off changing interior colors whether it's major or minor tasks. If it's only regarding cleaniness issues, I don't think it's worth it. Just my opinion

I had a high end interior shop replace my Ivory with black carpet and bound all the edges with leather binding/piping. I've also switched to black oem seats and keep my ivory's in storage. No regrets, now I get a ton of compliments on my "two tone" interior.

in efforts to keep costs to a minimum, i was leaning toward the dye solution rather than a complete carpet swap. anyone have any experience in that department?

thanks.

The only dye that will ~hold is the kind you boil and let set for a LOOOONG time. I have dyed clothes and have never really been satified with the results. They would never achieve the depth of color I was looking for. You may end up with "brown" or something worse.

I would check the price to replace, it can't be that much. I had the front 2 seats and center console in my '87 Legend re-leathered (all leather and leather pockets in the back of the seats) done for $800. Great job and still (after ~2 years) looks great.

My car is red/ivory interior. The seats are black, and carpet are gray. The door speakers grills are black. Yes, the 2 tone interior looks great. Carpet is still ivory. have pic if interested

I have dyed NSX carpeting from ivory to black. Tabasco gives good advice when he says the product must be hot to dye permanently. Also the final color was reddish-black or brownish-black, not a true black. Both the customer and I were not satisfied and I wound up installing used black carpeting obtained from ERZ.

Looks like I better double check the pricing I got. Two custom upholstery shops in my area quoted $800 just to re-leather the side bolsters on my 2 seats

Hi from NYC. I recently replaced my black/grey original front mats with a set of Zanardi's with the red trim. I purchased them from a local dealer for $132 + tax. Then I saw an ad for the same mats on sale for $32 less at Hondacuraworld. Instead of dying your mats-- for that price replace them. The difference in appearance is remarkable.

Hey all,
You can replace the carpet in your NSX with very little fuss. The carpet comes in pieces. If your carpet under your feet is a little discolored, you can replace it without taking out the console. It's a seperate piece. The piece that covers the floorboard and the rocker is one piece, the console is another. Just a little tip. The cost is not outrageous, but it will match if the console sides have been taken care of.
