CarFax help JH4NA1150MT002644

I have been in the market for an NSX and found a 91 in formula red, listed for $28,900 with almost 45,000 miles nearby in NJ...seems like a good price considering the mileage but it won't let me check the carfax on autotrader. Anyone kind enough to run the vin for me?

CarFax is clean.

No accidents reported to CarFax.


Car looks clean!

All of the detailed records had to do with annual vehicle registration.

Looks like car has lived in the New York/New Jersey area its entire life.

It appears as if there were four (4) owners. Three of the owners lived in/near the same city so they may or may not have been the same person or dealer. Sometimes this happens with CarFax.

This is not the first time I have found AutoCheck and CarFax not to be in sync with each other.

Late to the discussion, but the AutoCheck information is freely available on the Ebay page for that car:

I drove this car fairly recently and it was in good shape and handled wonderfully. Shifting was smooth, cornered clean, had steady acceleration, A/C appeared to work perfectly well and was overall in good looking condition. Seemed like a real solid vehicle.

Does Carfax really still do that?

I understand why they would in the old days, when Carfax sold "unlimited" search accounts.

But, now there aren't Carfax "Accounts" anymore. You have to either buy a single search for $35 or 5 searches for $45. There's no other options.

I think they moved to that model at least partly because of the problems they were having with the "unlimited account" model. That includes problems with dealerships that would sign up and then run hundreds of checks for $30. That was killing Carfax.

But, now, I can't imagine Carfax really caring about what you do with either the single search you paid for, or the 5 searches you paid for.

To satisfy my curiosity, I read the current Carfax rules. They vary tremendously from the old days of the "unlimited" model.

While the current rules are maybe not 100% clear, it does not appear that if you, a non-commercial consumer, pay your $45 for 5 searches, and you use 1 and give the other 4 away to friends, you are in violation of the rules.

I don't think doing so is a "Commercial use, resale and redistribution," as defined in their own rules.
