CarFAX for JH4NA1153TT000391

Thanks for trying.

Using the FAQ (and hoping for a mis-read) could you try
JH4NA1253PT000391 or
JH4NA1153PT000391
?

Hopefully I can get the correct VIN later today if those aren't right!

The second one was correct - it's an auto, but the FAQ says NA12 for autos? Maybe that's just after 95?

Anyway, it has an accident showing left side impact. Any opinions or too little information?

Those are not proper VIN numbers for an automatic from the factory. All VINs for NSXs originally built with automatics start with JH4NA126.

If the eighth digit is "5", then it must have started life as a manual ('91-94), with a VIN that starts with JH4NA115.

EDIT: Noted that the VINs are for factory installs.

I'll post another message with pictures, but that's just not true. It is an automatic with VIN # JH4NA1153PT000391 :-)

Yes, it must have been. For whatever reason.

I've updated my post to note that it's not a correct VIN for an NSX that was originally built with an automatic.

Are you suggesting it was stolen and had the VIN replaced? Who would do such a thing?
This is not the first auto I've seen with a 115 in the VIN. I can't believe insurance companies and state registers are so dumb.

I was not suggesting that anyone would steal an NSX and replace the VIN. For one thing, the NSX is not like other cars, where a slight change to the VIN would make the car more valuable. For another, the NSX is not stolen more frequently than most other cars.

If a JH4NA115... car has an automatic, my guess would be that either (a) the transmission (possibly including the engine) was destroyed somehow and the owner preferred or found a used tranny/drivetrain with an automatic, or (b) the owner decided he preferred an automatic on his manual car and was (foolishly IMO) willing to spend the money to have it swapped.

Seriously?

I wouldn't have thought that was possible... what makes the 270 vs 252 hp diff?

Which brings to mind a question: why is the auto 7500 redline instead of 8000?

When I was first shopping for an NSX I went to an Acura dealer in Toronto and the two NSXes had one funny looking number in the VIN. All the other letters and numbers were in a set type but this one number looked like it had been changed somehow, it had a different font. I thought this was strange. Has anyone else seen something like this.

Automatic transmissions don't like 8000 rpm shifts. The tranny shifts at 7200-7400 rpm with a pause from the engine in the middle of the shift. Sorry I forget what the pause is called.

Looking at the VIN plate, the rivet holding the VIN tag is all scraped up. It should be all black. Me thinks this was tampered with.

The only engine difference between auto and manual is the cams.

jack of all trades, master of some.

What exactly about the cams did they change to get another 20 hp?? And is that ALL they did for the 20?

Is this the picture you took from your digital camara? The # on the doorsill looks like is photoshop job. And I see there is also rubbing on the bottom of the door against the doorsill. That is why there is some buff marks (the black paint is almost down to metal?) on the doorsill. I would think that is the improper repair from the left side accident. Unless that is light reflection in the picture.

Yes, it is a digital camera picture. I took it after I bought the car.
The hilight is light reflection. The wear on the numbers/printing appears to be from shoes rubbing across it.

My automatic NSX starts out as JH4NA12...
