Can I Remove Front Beam for Cleaning?

Just curious that while I have the car in the air for my refresh, is it possible to remove the front beam to clean all of the undercarriage areas it covers and NOT have the engine fall out of the car? Will the other 3 motor mounts hold it in place? What is involved in removing the front beam? Any tips or tricks?

Yes you can.

You remove it when changing headers (and helps tremendously when changing clutches). Look for the DIY header install instructions on the forums as they have some tricks for the front engine mount.

Is that the BIG thing that I powder coated in the truck bed?

you kinda have to remove it to put in a new A/C compressor.

well I have done it by wiggling it enough to get the compressor in

but there are like 14 huge long bolts that hold the sub frame on

so Like BATMANs said it will not fall on you.

are you stripping your car down to the chassis or what LOL

you clean freak you.

I said that?

i had mines powder coated since I figured it's already out when the shop pulled my engine out and I mine as well do the coating so that if there is any oil, it would be easier to see against the background and be able to identify the color of the oil.

Thanks bat. Yes, that is the one.

And yes, Shawn I am a clean freak about my cars! :) Mitch's thread inspired me lol. The road grime is 1/2" thick on my NSX, plus there are all these nasty crud spots from old oil leaks and CV boot leaks. It is disgusting. I just want it looking "factory fresh", as my build thread states. ;)

U should have it powder coated near chrome so it looks like the aluminum piece that it's made of. Not some steel beam.

It's not worth taking it out just for cleaning, even you like the factory-fresh look. I had mine out and cleaned two years ago and had to take it out again for an A/C compressor change lately. It gets dirty even if it's driven on dry roads. You can clean the visible side quite well without removing it. Just my 0.02.

It's more about cleaning the areas hidden/covered by the beam. My NSX had several oil leaks from the PO and I just want to get in there and clean out all the gunk. The front beam is in the way. :)

I don't think you need to pull it off to clean it though. I did a cleaning of my undercarriage and as someone already stated the top side of that beam mostly remains clean. There are some areas on the top side that collect dirt but nothing that a tooth brush with simple green can't remove with ease.

Woops just saw your comment about the oil leak clean up. I guess disregard my statement above.

The one on my car was painted a light bluish-grey color. It does look like a regular steel beam due to the color.

BATMAN you sure it just wasn't years of road grime that you saw? I know mine looked black but once I cleaned a section off I saw there was actually a huge contrast to what really is under the road grime.

I had mine (along with a bunch of other stuff that unbolts) polished - couldn't resist...
