Anyone watched this fight ?? It was quite a surprise to see Lacy being utterly dominated like that. Anyway .. good fight though!! And both were quite gracious in acknowledging other's performance.

Cheers .. Gus

Hi Gus,

It depends on what you're looking for when you consider it a "good fight".

If a good fight means non-stop action, going toe to toe and slugging it out, then yes, this was a good fight. If a good fight means the fight was evenly matched, then no, it wasn't a good fight, because Lacy just kept missing (which is a testament to Calzhage's defense, of course). Near the end I switched over to HBO's rebroadcast of the Mosley-Vargas fight, so I never caught the final scorecards. Did Lacy win any rounds? I doubt it.

I found the Mosley-Vargas fight to be far more interesting, because it was so even. The judges were split, all with one-point margins, at the time it was stopped in the tenth. They said ringside observers had it 6-3 and 7-2 for Mosley, but I couldn't see how. There weren't as many power punches landed as in Calzaghe-Lacy, but at least they were more evenly distributed between the two fighters.

I'm a boxing fan as well as a Jeff Lacy fan. I have a new respect for Calzaghe! He simply put on a clinic last night. In the post fight interview Lacy admitted that he thought he could take out Calzaghe with one punch and boy did he pay for it. Hopefully Lacy will go back to the gym and work on his BOXING skills and not his BOMBING skills! Can't wait for the Mayweather/Judah fight next month!

Ken,..
Hi .. Yes . you're right in the sense that for what's considered a good and evenly matched fight .. this is not it .. I just never thought that I'd see Lacy thoroughly dominated like last night. I think Calzaghe's moves were quite amazing to watch, .. and to answer your question .. no, Lacy did not win a single round. Were it not for the point deduction that Calzaghe had on the 11th round, he would've gotten 120 points.

As for an entertaining and evenly matched fights, I think I'd put the Castillo vs Corrales and Gatti vs Ward to be the better fights in recent memory in that regard.

I don't have HBO anymore, so I didn't watch the Mosley fight. That would've been a good one to watch. I think HBO still has the better boxing programme than SHO .. I really missed the statistics feature that HBO has .. there were none during the Lacy - Calzaghe fight.

Cheers .. Gus

Gatti-Ward 1, 2, or 3? :D Pretty much any fight involving Arturo is going to be entertaining. Which is why he became such an attraction, far beyond mere wins and losses.

Yes, but SHO usually shows the round card girls, and HBO usually doesn't. :D
