For those of you who did the DIY on changing your caliper colors (ie Auto Zone kit), would you do it again, or pay a professional?

Thanks,

JM

DIY also....

Do it yourself. I did mine in Silver almost a year ago, and have had to do a little touchup work here and there, but they look great.

i have always looked forward to painting my calipers whenever i got a new ride. i have only had my 95 midnight pearl for about a month but it was the first thing i did. i went with brake caliper spray paint from autozone. yellow. against the purple it just pops out. costy me about $16 total. just make sure you clean them very good before applying. i used a wire bristle brush and acetone. i cleaned. rinsed. cleaned. etc. then i put about 4-5 coats of paint. if history is an indicator, they should hold up well, even without a shot of clearcoat, which was available.

Glad you all recommend this.

Any issues with getting the axle nuts un-staked/re-staked?

If all you are going to do is paint the calipers, why do you need to remove the axle nuts?
Anyway, find a flat blade screwdriver that fits in the groove. Tap it in, with a hammer, to lift the lip on the nut. Once you get a little clearance with the screwdriver use a small round ended punch to finish lifting the lip. Remember you only need to lift the lip to just clear the groove. If you remove the nut, be sure to re-torque it to the proper amount when you reinstall it. Have someone apply the brakes to keep the axle from turning while you re-torque the nut. That works good for the removal also.

Just a heads up.

If you plan to track your car or drive aggressively enough to get the temps beyond 900F, do realize that most of the paints will bleed. Have seen quite a few that after some track time, look better if they were not painted.

I have used black FoliaTec (German company) two process system twice now, and have been very satisfied given that I also track the car. If there is any bleeding, the black color will hide it, and the dust do wash off easily. It is my understanding that importer of FoliaTec started his own company about 3 years and now sells either the same or an almost chemically similar product as G2. You can find them for $38 and they will do all four calipers. I bought mine several years ago at $50.
