Hi,

For those of you living in the SF bay area... have you noticed that a lot of the gas stations are lowering the octane points for their premium unleaded?

Almost 4/5 the gas stations Ive been to in the past few weeks are selling 91 octane instead of 92. You can visibly see that the 91 sticker is newly stuck on (when compared to 87 and 89). Only 76 seems to be selling the full 92 premium (or they havent gotten the new stickers yet?)

Whats going on? I distinctly remember the nsx requiring 92... Are we screwed?

No you're not screwed. The car only requires 89+, I believe. This topic was discussed previously. Do a search for 'premium' or 'gas' and you should find it. Where's that FORUMS NAZI when you need him ?

By the way, premium gas here in FL is 93 octane, not 92...... That's a little weird, I thought.

91 octane or higher is recommended: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Technical/GeneralSpecs.htm

In mourning.

It varies in different parts of the country. At high altitudes like in Denver, it's even less than that (89, I think), because the engine can't take advantage of a higher octane due to the thinner air.

The owners manual tells you. My '91 and '98 owners manuals both specify 91 octane.

Sorry... I still need to get one. Bought my car second hand many years ago and they had lost the manual

I've noticed that the actual station makes a difference. There are a few here I know that I use exclusively. Over the years, I have noticed the car running worse from certain stations (same brand, different location) than others. I know that sounds strange and can be totally false. I used to think it was the brand, and used 76 only. Then I noticed the car running worse from certain 76 stations. One day I found a great Chevron nearby and loved the way the car ran. It has not disappointed once after filling up there. I don't know what to think of it.
Is it possible that a Chevron on one corner could be better than another? anyone?

I have had the same surprise in the Silicon Valley area. While pumping premium at the 76 station I regularly fill up at, I noticed the 91 octane sticker where I used to see a 92 octane sticker in the past. Stopped at 5 bucks worth. Luckily there is a Chevron only minutes from the house the has 92 octane. Its a few pennies more but they also have free air!! Rare these days. As far as performance, I have not noticed a difference between the 76 and the Chevron in my stock 97-T.

I just saw one of the strangest things ever at that 76 station with the 92 (now 91).

The 89 octane got bumped down to 88.5! HAHAHAHAHA! I never though things would get this bad.
