Bzzzz-BANG! There went my left speaker

It had to happen...one day. I had been too lucky. My middle speaker never worked since I bought my '91 three years ago, but I could live with that. I can't live with this shreeking. I guess its time to get familiar with the inside of my doors, finally. I'll go back and review Nick's instructions and see if I can stop laughing long enough to work on my car. Any recent advice on speaker amp service is appreciated. I'm thinking I'll try to tackle the two doors at the same time and leave the others until later. While in the doors, I need to lube the windows and check for/install thingies anyway.

What sucks is that this happened yesterday, when I hadn't driven my car for WAY too long. I also noticed that the inside of my front Yoko's are bare and kept thinking about my timing belt/waterpump needing replacment. When it rains...

Mark/Barn...going to be in Atlanta anytime soon?

It could be way worse. I am lucky to have the NSX.

Wow, my left one blew yesterday also....Removing the door is a simple process...I've done it several times. I've been repairing the speaker amps myself. Good luck.

My rear center speaker has never worked. Is it a major job to repair and is it worth the fix?
thanks

The center channel speaker is a Mono signal driven from an amp built into the sub woofer in the pasenger floor. Do you know if your sub is working? You can tell by putting your ear down in the passenger footwell area and slowly turning up the volume, the "bass" (and I use the word loosely) should rise quickly and then level off as you turn up the radio. I would bet that the bass module is out as well if the center is out. If it is you can either repair, replace, or start thinking about an aftermarket solution.

Another possibility is that the center is working and you just can not tell, the volume level compaired to all the other speakers is way less, this speaker was designed to add fill to the front speakers not add large amounts of sound to a small cabin.

Best of luck,

Dave

I am pretty sure that the sub is working as the sound is pretty good, but even at high volumes nothing comes out of the center. If I remove the subwoofer to get to the amps, would something be visibly wrong with the amp itself?
