Buttonwillow Sat September 14 w/ NCRC

I really wanted to go but didn't finish everything in time. How was the event run? how was the weather. Bummed I missed it.

The event was okay. They did not pre-grid the cars based on how fast they lap so there was a lot of traffic. I had to pre-grid 15 minutes before my session to get to the front. This was in both the Solo and Point-By group... equivalent to SpeedVenture's Blue & Green. By no means am I fast, just the participants that were running in those groups were noticably slower than me with not enough point bys.

The weather was nice the first two sessions, about 80*. However after lunch, the third and fourth session was painfully hot... about 95*. I was only able to do 5 laps shifting at 7.8k before engine temps quickly rose and I had to back off. For the fourth session, I was only able to do 3 laps before calling it quits. I have a Koyo radiator with fresh Type 2 coolant (50/50 ratio); no other mods to improve engine cooling. This was with running the heater at 90* / full speed, and a/c off.

I am planning on dilluting my coolant with distilled water to get a 70/30 ratio and adding a bottle of Water Wetter. Hopefully this will lower engine temps based on my oem gauge to comfortable levels.

A lesson that I learned from this track day is to avoid track days at BW between the months of June-September/October because it is just too hot... at least with my current set up.

Yeah, ive tracked the NSX a bunch in over 90 deg weather, it really affects the car much more than other track cars that ive owned. Ive implemented a 83 and below rule on the NSX. Ive got the same radiator as you for now, although Ive created a fully sealed ducting to it and have the distilled water with the wetter it dosent help all too much. I forget, do you have an oil cooler?

Dan - Sorry to hear about your overheating issues. Definitely been there... A ducted hood will help. I was in the same situation and struggled to find a proper radiator for the NSX that wasn't huge and/or expensive. Coz and I are testing the final version of a rad we've been developing. He's running Firebird West this wknd in Arizona heat. We have reason to believe this will be the best and final version.

He's 600wHP turbo. I'm on the CTSC so if the rads works on our cars it'll certainly work on all other NSXs. Last time at SOW with this setup it was probably about 110F and maybe 140+ track temps. I run 100% Honda Coolant and no water wetter (I just forgot). My temps weren't amazing but ECT didn't get past 210F. The latest revision is showing dramatic improvements on the street. Hope it carries over into the track.

What kind of oil cooler are you running?

Im waiting on the new set up RYU! ill be first in line to do the radiator and ill swap the fan at the same time.

Ive got 25% honda coolant and 75% distilled water and water wetter. Ive run only water/water-wetter in many of my track cars and never had a problem.

Regan, I do not have an oil cooler.

Although I know a ducted hood will help a lot with the heat, I want to keep the oem body look... at least for now. Plus I do not want to spend that kind of money plus painting it, etc. Maybe in the future.

I may be interested in the radiator you guys are developing or if 70/30+water wetter. If that doesn't work, maybe I will just not do events during the Summer :D
