burnt out + take off

Couple question here:
1.What's the right way to do a burnt out with minimal stress/ wear on clutch/flywheel/tranny??

Here's what I did... couple days ago, my boss rushed out to his office and ask me to do some cool accelaration with my "fast car", then I just decided to do a burnt out dumping clutch thing, I did dumped the clutch at 4500 rpm and I believe the burnt out was pretty cool, all the sudden I found that my rev got passed the redline...(I think it's somewhere like 8400-8500) so I got scared and just take off and shift to second... leaving a cloud of smoke behind...

My second question is that why the engine doesn't seems like it had the fuel cut off (by the rev-limiter)?? Maybe somehow my computer had been changed by the previous owner? Is there any way to find out if that's the case without pulling the computer off?

I'm sorry for asking such a dumb question, but I had driven front wheel drive / 4WD car all my life, and I've been pampered my nsx, I really never done/ known how to do those stupid high school thing...the right way...( burnt out, donuts and stuff...)

I think that's called an oxymoron, that is, doing a burnout and trying to minimize stress on the drivetrain:D :D

That being said, sounds like you did OK. IMO dumping the clutch is better than riding it. As far as the rev limiter, I would assume you shifted right before it kicked in.

You will be ok, as a few rev-limiter hitting occasions will not be too much of a problem on the NSX.

I believe the stock tachometer reads low by 250-300 RPM at redline. So you can actually rev to an indicated 8250-8300 before the rev limiter kicks in - but it does so at an actual 8000 RPM, even though it's indicated higher on the tach. (Someone correct me if I've got that wrong.)

If you only revved no higher than 8300 RPM, your rev limiter is probably fine.

Hitting the rev limiter is fine. I have done it so many times and the NSX seems to handle it well. My rev limiter kicks in as soon as my Tach hits the 8000 RPM line (red line). I have never seen it above that. I can't, therefore, say that it is safe above 8000 rpm. I know that some modified ECU's with upgraded chips permit the car to rev higher above the stock revlimiter. Also, I don't know if it is possible to disconnect the rev limiter either. If you were able to shift to second and drive off then you engine is probably fine.

I wouldn't be worried if I were you. The tach is an analog gauge, while the wheels were spinning, most likely the tach was moving very rapidly towards the redline. When you approached the rev limit and put in the clutch, the guage would continue moving (albeit now decelerating) - I wouldn't be surprised if that would account for a few extra hundred RPMs shown. Did you notice a loss of power when the rev limiter was hit? You might not have even hit the limiter.

I noticed my rev. limiter kicks in at about 7000+ if the car is cold. Otherwise it sputters around the mid 8000s.

Honda has many diff rev limits in their ECU programs. It will NOT allow VTEC to engage either when cold, or low oil pressure etc. On my VTEC Integra, there was a 5k rev limit if the oil pump got a pocket of air, and also if the fuel pump got a pocket of air. It will be stuck @ a 5k rev limit until the ECU is reset. All for safety reasons.

Yes, it will kick in early on a cold car, so let it warms up first and you won't have to worry about that no more.

I guess for the first question, I'm wondering if I should dump the clutch in lower rpm (if in case I would ever want to do that again..) and have the same result...

For the second question, I have to clarify that I did not feel I've hit the limiter, but I'm well past 8000rpm... It happened so fast that I'm not sure If i was at 8300 or 8450, for sure it didn't past 8500rpm though... yeah, I guessed I'm being paronoid for nothing, since the car acts fine so far...

Well I guess I can answer my own question of how to find out the computer had been modify, I just have to stop driving it and take some time to wrench in my garage...
(Well, I need to adjust my windows, fix radio knob....among other things... Just that everytime I saw the car, I just wanted to take it out and drive it...)

I agree, I have the car; so I must drive it. My wife says " you'll put too many miles on it, blah.. blah... blah...", I say in reply ... don't worry; it was made to be driven... it is car!

What a sweet car it is.

I am sure your car will be fine, I have hit my limiter so many times; however.... the first time it kicked in, I nearly crapped in my pants. I pulled over to let it idle, and I was really worried for a minute.

If you want to do a good burn out first hit the TCS button......:D
Then rev it up a bit, dump the clutch gentley apply the brakes while mashing on the gas.
This will lock up the fronts more than the rears, and the rears will spin.
Its not that good for your clutch, brakes, or tires but if thats what your into it gives a nice show.
