Thank God NASCAR is back! The shootout is on now. Who else here thinks Honda should get into NASCAR? The Accord or TL would be a very competitive car considering Honda's motor building genius. With all the money they're saving by pulling out of F1, I think they should go for it. What a great marketing opportunity!

Honda could but would spend around $300 million per year and achieve 14 championship points and finish as the second last backmarker...

See: 2008 Formula Championship results and results as of the last 5 years...

I'd love to see it happen but Honda is changing its marketing presence; away from racing.

Correct. They are moving forward using the Acura moniker for all factory racing activities. ALMS for instance. That pretty much means that the TL would be the vehicle used for NASCAR.

I would not be surprised to see it happen in the very near future. A car corral at Daytona and Homestead wouldn't suck. Especially with a few parade laps on those insanely banked turns. :)

At least they're leaving behind a decent legacy which was the most powerful F1 motor ever used in racing trim. I believe their 1986 V6 turbo was able to run at 950bhp in race trim while the competition (although more powerful overall) only ran in the 850bhp range. Honda had a much better engine management system which allowed them to use more horsepower than the others while achieving the same fuel consumption.

Who is your driver Hugh?

I'm more a fan of the sport than a particular driver but I have a lot of respect for Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Dale Jr., Johnson and Edwards to name a few.

They are all class acts and never go off on little schoolgirl whining rants like Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch do.

My mother is a big Jeff Gordon fan. She has life sized posters and her cat is named Jeff. No she is not the crazy cat lady but she sure loves Jeff Gordon. She is a huge NASCAR fan.

I like jeff myself and loved DW.

I know a lot of people feel NASCAR drivers don't have a lot of skill but I feel they do, and big balls too. It's like driving 100 mph on ice IMO. The edge of control....right before the line snaps.

I always think those people are funny. Nascar drivers do all kinds of shit in the off season. Jimmy Johnson drove a 24 hours of Daytona car. Stewart did that last year.

I like Nascar AND Honda.

I'm a bit Tony Stewart fan. He grew up like 35 miles from my house. Super down to earth guy. Real nice.

I'd LOVE to see Honda in Nascar. that would rock!

Yep, right here in Columbus, Indiana!! I grew up being around the track, so I love about every type of racing there is. In particular, I'll be a redneck twice this year; Daytona and the Brickyard! The wife bought us a VIP trip to the Daytona 500 for my 30th birthday - we leave Saturday morning!! Just got my redneck red Office Depot t-shirt and the wife's ribbed SHR tank. Sometimes you just have to loosen up. . . . . .and go racin!! Woohoo!!

How ghey is that. Stop the race due to rain and declare the weiner!! Why couldn't they switch to Wet tires? Oh yeah - Wiper blades are usually not found on those "cars".

Wow! What a trip! Even without the finish it was a fantastic race. Got to meet Jeff Gordon, David Stremme, and David Ragan at the hospitality events. Got on the track and in the infield. Not a fan of Kieth Urban, but a good performance no less. Big props to my wife for arranging it all. If you ever go to this race On Point Sports is a fantastic company to go through. The package through them included hotel, police escort to and from the track, hospitality inside and outside of the track, fanzone access, track and pit access, daytona experience access, and great seats in the sprint tower (there were only 6 rows above us). An unforgetable trip, and we've already decided to do it again. Simply awesome!

Joe
