Well, the Daytona 500 is off and running. Can't help it, I love it! My boy Jimmie Johnson is already up to 15th from 29th in about 20 laps. Any guesses from anyone (if there is anyone) who follows NASCAR, of a winner today?

I want to see Jimmie Johnson win, but my guess is Tony Stewart.

Okay, sorry. I will put my "redneck tendencies" back down below where it usually stays. Where no one can see it...

Alright, apparently I am the only NASCAR fan here. Oh well, the race didn't turn out so well?!

The race best illustrates what happens when the tires you are using has a compound far to hard. Same goes for the NSX. See, NASCAR can be related to the NSX...okay, maybe not (the whole stock car handling like a brick thing).

Lovin NASCAR here  ....Sorry I would have posted for Jr.earlier if I was at my house, but I ended up going to a NASCAR party and watched as he was collected in the maylay in the closing laps. I just got back home and saw your thread.

Good going for the local Bakersfield Chap! Harvick did an exceptional job in the end passing Martin with in the last 100ft of the checkered. Thank god for Track Pass and DVR!

By the way, we had the track pass with Direct TV and I am glad I ordered it for the season.

Not a fan of Johnson or the Rainbow warrior, but it is only the first race of the season. I am waiting for them to debut the COT (Car of Tomorrow), now that is going to be interesting to see where everyone will be.

Long live DEI!!!!

 I can't wait for next week as I will be at California in a box looking over JR.or on top of my uncles RV in the in field!!! I can't wait....we will be in the In field in my uncles Diesel Pusher on Thursday thru the weekend....wow, it is going to be another fun year at Cal Speed!!! Then the week after that we will be racing on the road course in the Datsun 510's! We have been going to this event since NASCAR adopted California Speedway.

Cheers,

Rev,

Sounds like I have another person to talk NASCAR with! I worked for Miller Brewing Company right out of school, so Jr. is the Darth Vader to the Miller boys (and gals)! My best friend is a Jr. fan, so I tend to follow what he is doing...even if I didn't want to the media would make me!;) I think he will become majority owner of DEI. Teresa just wants the check anyways. She knows DEI would be nonexistant with out him and the Budweiser sponsorship.

It wasn't a good day for many of the marque drivers either. It still would have been great to see Mark Martin get his win at Daytona with over 20 tries (23 i think). Take care man.

Best,
Chuck

LOL, Wow, I thought about posting to see if anyone on here followed NASCAR, but I figured that I'd get flamed. I really enjoyed the race today and they all did a great job. I think JR should take it over and run the program, heck, his dad built that empire for him.

I think Johnson is a talented driver as they all are, but I don't really like Jeff Gordon because of the fact that him and Jimmy usually try to find a way to blame everyone else except themselves for bad driving. I still follow them but don't really like them.

I really was wishing that Martin won, but my uncle is a big Harvick fan and was pushing for him in the closing laps. I think that they are all talented drivers and I enjoy watching them. I have been a Fan of Dale Jr. since he started racing NASCAR.

Jimmy did an exceptional job last year with the title, so I am looking forward to what is happening with the COT.

What are your views of the COT? Do you like it or do you hate it? I really feel bad because some if not all of the body guys may be loosing their jobs due to the COT. (Well that is what they were talking about today on NASCAR live.

Cheers,

Angel

Angel,

the COT is an interesting concept. It will bring positives and negatives as it becomes mainstreamed. I would think we can bank on it being in Cup races, seeing as how much money has been spent on the R&D. I don't know if the NASCAR guys could take working on such a project and it not culminating. I must be honest, I kind of like it...unlike most others. I don't think they are getting the result they wanted though. It was just as fast as the current set ups. The Cup guys certainly don't like it. It is change. I think it is interesting that the Toyota guys don't mind it though. Hmm, maybe looking for more of a level playing field??? The purist fans don't like it, that is for sure.

I'm not a huge fan of Gordon myself, but since he owns my boy's ride I have a little bit vested in following him. I did see him out at a bar a few months back here in Charlotte. He, like most of the guys, is really short. Ingrid wasn't all that hot either...but I didn't say that.

Jimmie took the heat for losing his car today. I have a different view of Jimmie. I don't think he is vocal enough. He is quiet and doesn't do many interviews (probably because he's not a fan favorite either!). I would prefer he show some more personality. Oh well, still gonna support him. Have a good one Angel!

Best,
Chuck

Yeah, the COT is growing on me. I do like the fact that it is change and I feel it will level the playing field again. I have not read a lot about the COT to make a judgment call, but I think the wing is a bit much. The front splitter is kind of cool looking.

Since I own a Lexus, I would support Toyota, but I don't want to trade on my boy Jr., but I am going to follow their progress. It was hard for me to accept that they let Toyota in, but then again, it will hopefully bring a whole new fan base to the sport. I know that TRD has some deep pockets, so I hope that they do things right and now that they are in the sport the engine builders will have to get creative if the cars start doing what the trucks did...started Winning Races.

Yeah, I have been in the infield during one of the weekends when NASCAR was here and have seen some of the drivers walking around at night and I have meet a few of them.

I agree, Johnson just has to use the media to win over the fans. I think if he was more personable and made the attempt to get out there and reach for the fans, I think they would change their mind over time...but the key word is time. If he were to leave the stables of Gordon, I think his fan base would grow....It is the Rainbow warrior who has tagged him in the wrong, heck look at Stewart at one time...he use to be a bad a$$ with attitude and now he is growing his fan base thru the media and getting closer to the fans like climbing the fence as a trade mark when he wins. Johnson is a great racer, but you said it best, he needs more personality and needs to get more in touch with fans.

Sorry to see Jimmy out of the race. I am not fond of restrictor plate races. Too many crashes effecting a lot of cars. Pretty bizarre ending...one car crossing the finish line upside down in flames.

That makes the race finish "suspect." I didn't see a yellow flag after the mix-up and if there was one thrown. Mark Martin would be the winner. Yellow course dictates that the first race car over the finish line the clear lap before the yellow....wins. I believe Martin was that car when the Starter waived the ceremonial white flag, a lap before?

Woot....another member to add to the list. I guess it is not very popular with this NSX community thus far. I guess when someone finally brings up F-1, lets see how many will start posting. I am looking forward to going out again to Indy to watch them this year, but I am not sure if this will be the last year for F-1 to stop here in the states. I was at the one that they boycotted and that was not fun....Us fans who took the time off and was there for a week ended up getting very pissed that they parked the cars after the warm up lap....boy that was a bummer. only good thing that came out of it was free tickets to the following years race. My goal is to go out to Spain to watch F-1.

Yeah, the 38 car I think did it last year (Crossing the finish line upside down.) but I am not for sure. I remember that there was a couple that did that same thing and I remember one guy actually was air borne going over it...well towards the in field.

Indeed, it is nice to see some others chime in. I agree with the caution call. For the record, apparently NASCAR waited until Harvick and Martin finished to throw the flag. I don't, however agree with that. It seemed like a caution had become too "discretionary" (sp). A caution, by definition, would have been waived as soon as Kyle Busch went around (a little ways before the start/finish line). At that instant, Martin was winning. The commentary on Speed from Martin fans will be interesting to hear. I would say I might have to agree with them.

Either way, there certainly was no shortage of accidents and cars caught up in them. Restrictor plate racing does blow, but what do you do? If those guys went any faster, we see horrific crashes like there were years ago. Only worse now, as the aerodynamics and horsepower efficiencies have increased. The ol' "catch 22."

Best,
Chuck

By the way Angel, as for the level playing field: I used to agree with you about the playing field being biased towards the big lucrative teams, but after reading an article about Richard Petty's racing days I changed my view. I read he once lapped the entire field! That is just rediculous. Something seems way out of balance there! But I am a fan of Richard and the whole Petty organization. They truly make a difference with their resources. I think Toyota likes the COT because as existing teams are working on figuring it out, it gives Toyota time to get acquainted to the Cup series racing. Just my opinion. Cheers.

Yes, too bad for Martin, I was the only one in the house and screaming like crazy.
And how bout that Schrader, he is always there and then gets knocked out.
Man, talking about bad luck.
I cant wait to see the outcome about the yellow flag issue.

Yeah, I think I watched something on Speed about that at one time or another when they were doing a special on the Petty's. They have been in the back ground for a while now, but the foundation is for a great cause. That is usually the only time I hear the name Petty. It will be nice to see the field a little more level with the COT, I think it will be a good thing for the sport, but the hardcore are not going to like the way they (COT) look. It has taken me a bit to like it, but it is growing on me more and more, the only think again I am having trouble with is that wing...hahahaha it is just not right on a NASCAR...LOL

Bummer for Waltip (Toyota), he is now negative points since they fined him for the illegal use of the manifold. Bummer for Toyota debut in NASCAR, but hey, things happen and I just hope they do well this year. It will be really exciting to watch their progress in this sport.

Cheers,

Angel

Ah, so it is previous lap leader? I was under the assumption the field was frozen at that moment (to be reviewed by NASCAR from footage if necessary). Either way, Martin wins in that senario.

Hey Chuck, the word is out....they are coming out finally.

Cheers,

Angel

P.S. What about the move that took out Stewart.....Busch....I know it was not intentional and he admitted he mad a mistake. Now that took courage....I was waiting to see what Stewart was going to do, but he was poised and collected....he has learned very well how to calm his temper.

California Here I come....Wooot, only 2 more days of work for me and then I drive an hour to the track and live there for almost a week with non-stop partying!!!!

I'm envious Angel. Stewart is definitely taking anger management courses. No doubt about it. Very noble of Kurt too. But it's nearly impossible to check up at Daytona. Bad situation all around. Take some pics while you are out there and e-mail me. I would love to get out to Cali for a race one of these days. Infineon is my first choice.

Check out Wolfgang Puck's new restaurant there (Apex). Chicks love Wolfgang Puck restaurants...but I would think that there will be a slim selection. It's always "hot" in California though, right?

Well it rained today in So Cal, but at the moment it is scattered clouds and brisk. I will try to remember to take my camera to take some shots, but that also depends on my consumption of beverages.....hahahaha we're talking NASCAR!

Yeah I agree, I really like Tony and he, to say the least, has calmed the storm very well. Back in the day, he probably would have climbed out of his car and gotten in Kirks face.

Wolfgang is not bad at all, but it is not for me. Yeah, it should be a good place to find some nice looking Cali ladies, but at the same note, I will be looking forward to the festivities of the infield at night. It is like a little city in the track, just fun and full of weird people and some crazy NASCAR finatics!

Cheers,
