Braking bias

Hello guys,

I'm new here on the forum as I recently just picked up a NSX.

However, the car came with a 6 pot front caliper with stock rear, and makes the braking balance really biased. Car tends to lock up (especially in wet condition) and ABS does not kick in until much later, which does not really bother me for daily drive, but for track season that would be an big issue.

My options are
1) Upgrade the rear caliper to 4 pot, but then with e-brakes the cost will go up.
2) Swap the front caliper back to stock, and go with carbotech, project mu, endless pads+rotors.

What would you guys do if you were me?
Thanks
George

tell us more, what bbk? what pads? what is the car doing under heavy braking?

Since you're new here and some member choose to just link to a vendor without any input, I advise you to PLEASE research DALI before you purchase. A LOT of people have had issues on never receiving parts and loosing money. So, I caution you to please choose who/where you purchase through carefully. DALI has a mixed reputation. I personally have never purchased, but I've read enough negative feedback where I never will.

Hope that helps.

break proportioning valve.

I would just go back to the oem fronts and sell the willwoods. then invest in some good pads, fluid and brake air ducts.

I have a similar set up as the OP, (stoptech front stock rear)I can tell you that at the track I used to lock pretty often., but after I switched to a 235 witdth tire I dont have that issue anymore.

Now, I was going to actually open a thread about this too, for winter upgrade on my car I will be upping the rear brakes, Me like you cant afford the rera BBK +rear Ebrake set up at this moment so I have chosen to go with RB 13" rear two piece rotor and RB800 pads all around, My braking isnt that bad at this moment but I am sure this rear set up will surely help improve overall braking.

But lets see what the pros think.

Guys....

That's one of my option, but I'm wondering if OEM brakes can provide sufficient braking force as the track I am going is all about late braking, btw this is my front setup : http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=548
And the pad, according to the previous owner, is customized.

wow the old tarox kit.....that kit gained a small following due to its low profile hence it could fit under the oem 16 fronts and most other wheels...not too sure about its trackworthyness though.I think you need to reboot with a new set of pads front and rear that way you can kinda be in some known ballpark for bias rather than the idk setup now. Also I'm assuming its your fronts locking first? What tires and sizes front and rear?

the oem brakes can provide the same breaking force as any bbk. however a bbk can provide a larger area to disperse heat. If you could get your hands on a set of type r pads, you would be surprised with the performance of the oems.

OK, I'll keep that in mind, but normally thats what people do, just show a link on Dali since I believe they have most of the products we are looking for.

Thanks alot!

George

I see, but why so? My friend who had tracked his NSX for 7 years says it's a pretty good brake.
Yeah it's the front that locks up, I am running mixed Falken front (4 yr old) and Bridgestone rear (I forgot the models) , it came like that. it's 235/35/17 front and 275/40/18 rear.

See as you give us more specific info we can give more specific advice, what model of falken? Does your abs pump cycle alot? The older systm is not great but you should feel some abs trying to engage.Do you have the abs light on the dash lit? I now have the newer 02 abs upgrade but even before that with the old system and R compounds, and various pads, front lock was never an issue, part of this could be your front tires.

wait..... what are your exact tire sizes? are you sure it is not 235/40/17 and 275/35/18? because the tire sizes you stated would definitely cause problems. it would have huge tires in the back and very short sidewalls in the front.

Here is part of your problem, Falken tires are known to be thin walled by running falkens 235 at the front (wich are more like 215's ) you are not getting enough grip.

I was running 275 star specs at the rear and 215 falkens rt-615's at the front, 215 rt-615 's are more like 195's on a real tire size.
Because of this, I was having masive understeer but more than anything I was looking up the front big time.

I have ever since switch the fronts to star specs 235's and the locking and understeer its gone, like magic...

Falkens are the thinest tires out there and direzzas star specs have to be the thickest, they are pretty thick.

No the ABS does not come up at the dash, do you think 02 ABS upgrade is worth it in your opinion?
Yeah I am sure front tires is the issue, I will have them swapped asap.
However, what kind of tires/brakes/pads setting would you suggest me to run?

Thanks

Yeah that's the tire size I am currently running right now. I have been suspecting the tires are old and does not have grip.
What tires would you suggest me to run? I'm going to buy a set of NT01's for track next summer, but right now im looking for DD with good grip

I see, yes I have read something like that on prime too!
so the problem should be better just with tires changed?
I heard Dunlop Z1 star grips well in dry and rain. or PSS?
Yah car came with this shitty setup, need to have them swapped.
However, despite the fact of the tires not gripping enough, do you think my braking setup will do good on track?

Thanks

I'm chiming in here because there's some REAL legit threads on tires from people with tons of experience at the track and since you're tracking your car and not pretending to track it, I recommend you read some of the threads from the past.

Anything that Nsxtasy posts about tires is legit. Not say others aren't "metalspikeracing I know you're a tracker", but read some of Nsxtasy's posts on tires here on prime.

Dont get your comment "metalspikeracing I know you're a tracker", Anyways...

In one, all I said is that 235 17 40/ 275 35 18 direzza star specs have work great for me, no locking up, lots of grip and got rid off of my unwanted understeer.
There is alot of guys here that track their cars in this forum that are probably more experienced than me for sure, but the imput I am sharing is what has helped me.
So my coments or tires are legit whatver tha means.
