The wear indicators are making noise. Sometimes they stop making noise but it always comes back. How much brake pads do I have left once the wear tabs start squeeling?
They make a horrible whining noise in reverse.

The squeaker tabs start making noise when there is roughly 1.5-2.0 mm of pad material left, which is when you want to replace them anyway. It's not dangerous to keep driving on them at that point (assuming you're not using them on the racetrack, where they wear fast), but the tab is making contact with the face of the rotor, and you really don't want to allow that to go on for any length of time. I recommend replacing the pads at the first convenient opportunity, and within the next week or two if you're using the car every day.

I just did a brake job on my car, simple and can be fairly quick job. I had the car jacked up and everything apart in under 45 minutes. I took my time, replaced the rotors, cleaned and painted the calipers and pad mounts so it took a bit longer to put back together. I could have bled it all out and put it back together and had less than 2 hours invested if I wouldn't have painted the parts.
