Hi all:

Could anyone tell me what I should expect to pay to replace the stock rotors with aftermarket rotors? Labor only please - I already have the new rotors waiting to go on. Also, is this the type of job that my favorite mechanic could easily do, even if he doesn't have much experience with an NSX, or do I need to use an NSX tech?

BTW, I am replacing F & R, so if you have an idea of how long that should take, I can compute the labor cost.

Thanks,

Todd

Thanks - if it costs a lot more than the rotors themselves just to have them installed, I would probably just pass - but it looks like it shouldn't be too bad for someone who knows what they're doing (not me:confused: )

Todd,

The hardest part (for me) is getting those d&$n shipping screws out of the old rotors. Be sure to remind your mechanic to brush, brush, and brush some more to remove all of the rust, dirt, etc that winds up between the rotor and hub, or else you may pick up a small shudder under braking.

I would think 2 hours max, depending on those screws!

The install will vary based upon how differcult it is to remove the screws mentioned in a previous post.

My screws (25 K Miles) came out without differculty. So, the install time was minimized.

It is not a differcult job. The 2 hr estimate is on target. My highly experienced NSX tech did in about that time give or take 15 or 20 minutes.

Good Luck
Rich

Are the crossed drilled rotors the best thing you can do (for the money) for the car to improve stopping power? Or should I replace the entire caliper as well..

I use an impact screwdriver and have never had problems with the screws. First whack every time:D ..... if you do it yourself, do yourself a favor and buy a impact screw driver.

Only do cross drilled rotors if you like the look, no real improvement in ability, plus they cost more. Grooved is just as good, really solid is just as good for actual stopping. Lots more questions to be asked to get the "best" rotor for your situation.

100% agree. If you have an impact driver, don't even bother with a manual screw driver.

I have an impact screw driver, but sometimes those buggers are rusted in, or heat fused, and drilling them out is the only way. But the good thing is that they do not need to be replaced, so you never have to worry about it again.:D

hey Todd, if you wait until after christmax you can bring your car to my house and i will show you how to change the rotors. We can paint your brake calipers while we are at it.:) :) I have been wanting to do mine also. I am planing a weekend after christmas to do maintence(change oil, trans fluid, recheck valve clearances, check timing, etc.) so let me know if you want to join me.

SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC:

Just curious, how long after painting the caliper before you can start driving the car again?

I am not really sure on a time till dry, but because of it being out of a spray can and being uncatalized paint it cant be that long. I would guess , depending on temp, anywhere between 15 min and 30 min. It also depends on how many coats you spray. I am sure on the back of the can there are suggested drying times.

Well I actually went and completed my Brake Rotor and Pad change today. Definetely go buy a Impact Screw Driver only like $12-15 and save you a whole lotta trouble. I tried just using a regular philips just not enuff juice to loosen it and will tend to strip it too. My first attempt on one side took me a hour and half including the time to run to kragen to pick up my impact screw driver. ONce i got everything it only took me 30min to do the other side.

Chris - done. Thanks for the offer, and I will gladly take you up on it. Let me know what color you want to paint your calipers and I'll pick up the paint for us, along with anything else you need me to bring. I'll send you a PM later and we can figure out a good time to do it.

Thanks,

Todd

:)
