engine side brake pads on the rear are about half as thick as the outer brake pads... is this normal? I don't think so... any mechanical culprits here? thanks!

The inner ones do tend to wear faster even when everything is perfect. What do you mean by half as thick, if the outside is full thickness and the inside is half as thick you have a huge problem if the inside is 4mm and the out side is 8mm the then no wories.
