Brake Pad Shim's

I'm going to replace my pads on my newly acquired 91 because their's not much left. Probably going with Cobalt Bobcats or OEM. The service manual shows shims on inner and outer pads. I assume aftermarket pads don't come with shims. Can the shims from the OEM's (assuming they are on there) be reused on aftermarket pads?

Also is the lubricant between shim and pad for OEM pad's required on NSX's to keep the squeal away?

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

Yes, you can reuse the shims, assuming thay are not damaged. Every once and a while I get them that look pretty bad, but most times I reuse them with no issue.

You can use any brake lube for the shims. NAPA sells a nice spray can of "Brake Quiet" that works well. Or you can order the "Honda" brand.

I do not use it with track cars, but I do use it for street applications, it does keep the squeal down.
