I went to change my brake pads and had no shims I'm putting Hawk HPS in anyone running without shims? I have a '91 stock calipars drilled sloted roters stock size. thanks

In that case, I see no reason to run them. Others may want to chim in, but I'm pretty sure. They're just to cut down on noise levels.

Greetings,
I replaced my pads last month with Hawks HPS without OEM shim. So far, I haven't heard any squealing. Although I did applied some MOLY anti seize paste. At first, I was going to reuse the OEM shims. But upon inspection of the HPS pads, they appeared to already have shims attached to them from factory. Just in case though, I saved the OEM shims for re-attachment if necessary. Hope this helps.

I have the same setup as you (calipers, pads and rotors). I don't use shims with the HPS pads and have no trouble with them. I also use high-temp grease where the caliper pistons meet the back of the pads.
Happy Motoring!

It's my understanding that the shims serve mainly to eliminate squealing. Additionally, I believe they are made of stainless steel - which may also serve to eliminate steel-on-steel contact between the brake pistons and brake pads. I would think a good coating of high temp grease would also serve the same purpose.
