Brake Pad Recommendations

I'm going to go with Brembo cross-drilled (not big brake kit) rotors and was wondering what's a good pad to go with those. On my BMW i'm using Metal Master Deluxe Pads and they are nearly dust-free. At teh same time, I think the stock Acura pads are pretty muich dust-free too. So i'm wondering if there's any advantages on getting away from the Acura pads othegr than the fact they run twice as much as the Metal Masters.

I have used Metal Master brake pads and they do not stand up to the heat generated in a high performance car like the NSX, not even as well as the stock NSX pads. I would never consider using Metal Master brake pads on an NSX, even if it were used only on the street. There's a reason why they're cheaper.

I think the stock pads offer a great combination of excellent performance, low levels of dusting and noise, and reasonable price. (You can get a set for $144 front, $88 rear from A&H, and that's not very expensive for high-quality pads.)

There are lots of other good aftermarket choices as well. If you want to consider aftermarket pads, I would suggest talking to Andie at Cobalt Friction, and he can advise you of the best choices for your needs. He will provide excellent advice and customer service (and prices!) and carries many of the major aftermarket brands.

I guess I should have also mention that I only do normal street driving on my vehicle, and not agressive driving at all. I'm very easy on the brakes. But based on your recommendation, I understand that you think the stock Acura pads would outperform the Metal Masters in any situation. I guess I'll be getting those Acura Pads + Brembo x-drilled rotors for looks. Any further recommendations? Thank you.

Cobalt

Andie at Cobalt was alot of help for me, I did exactly what your planning. I love the setup I've got.

I went with the Axxis Ultimate and got them from Andie Lin at Colbalt. These pads are a great for track days and some spirited street driving:)

I would recommend stock pads. It is worth it for the lack of dusting alone..

I'm also using the Axxis Ultimate pads, both front & rear. Have used them on the street as well as the track.
They do dust a bit more but maybe that is also because I tend to brake later now than I used to do. So far, I'm quite satisfied with them.

Just FYI - Axxis Ultimates are known for dusting. Go figure that'd be the case for a street pad.

The difference in stopping ability is worth the trade off of some brake dust in my opinion:)

Project U street pads from DaliRacing.

No dust
No squeal
No fade
No Problems.
Reduced pedal effort.

Couldn't be happier with them of course all I have to compare them to are stock.

Here's his page for them:

Hi Kinan, have you run them at the track? If it does hold up on the track I think i'll swap my carbotech pads for them...can't stand the squealing!

As previously mentioned in this thread.

Call and ask for Andie or Aaron. I have used the factory, Dali, Carbotech, and Cobalt pads. For the performance and money, you can't go wrong with Cobalt. Plus, Andie owns an NSX and Aaron has owned two NSX's in the past.

BTW, tell them Doc told you call and they'll probably charge you double! J/K.

ak,

I've run them at Pahrump a few times and haven't had any problems whatsoever with them.
They don't fade, nor lose their grip during hard braking.
Easier to modulate than stock with much better feel.
I've got about 20k on them now and they're holding up well with still at least half life left.
They dust about as much as stock, maybe just a slight bit more.

I really like these pads!

Oh, I do have the front dust shields removed.

Dr.Lane, you had the Carbotech Panther Plus pads? Which pads are you running from Cobalt now? How do they compare?

I have the Carbotech PP pads now and they are AWESOME. They dusted quite a bit when I first got them but seems to have settled down a bit. I do get some squeal at times but that seems to be going away as well....
