Brake Master Cylinder

My brakes started getting really mushy in the last month so I had them bled and they're slightly better but still very mushy. Sometimes I need to pump the brake to get a solid feeling in them. I'm starting to wonder if the master cylinder is going bad. Is there a way to tell without just replacing it? I don't want to spend $$$ on unneeded repairs. My car has just reached 75,000 miles.

Classic symptom for a leaking MC is the pedal feels firm at first, then slowly falls to the floor. If you have this symptom get your MC replaced ASAP as it's a safety issue.

Thanks for info. I think I heard that "trick" before and forgot about it.

I didn't think I had that problem, but I went for a short drive today, and at the stop light, it did feel like the pedal was very slowly sinking. Not enough to notice normally, but when looking for it, I could feel it. I guess I'll get it looked at this week.

Follow-up.

Yup. Put the car on the lift and there's brake fluid leaking from the MC. My brake guy called Honda to order a replacement and was quoted about $340 and 4 or 5 days to deliver. So I called Niello Acura and got it for $220 and having it over-nighted. Thanks Niello!
