What's the best performing brake kit package I could fit to my NSX while keeping the stock Zanardi BBS wheels? I would like to upgrade to Brembo calipers and floating hat style brake disks, but I really want to keep the stock wheels. Oh I don't want to consider spacers for the wheels. But I might consider having the inside of the wheel spokes machined for caliper clearance. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks a bunch...

Comptech has a Brembo kit that will fit the oem wheels - and presumably the Zanardi BBS wheels.

Tarox is another option and DaliRacing sells them.

But you want to machine the wheels instead of using spacers  ...... get spacers and you will probably need no more than 5 mm, and even better, go with 15 mm it will make the fenders look better, and wider is better ..... ;)

Re: Re: Brake kit for Zanardi.....

I checked out the Tarox, seems like a good setup. I couldn't tell if Tarox makes floating disks, that is the brake rotor seperate from the rotor hat. Reason why I'm interested in upgrading my brakes is that I am getting a brake vibration when I brake really hard and the brakes heat up.

The vibration is caused by uneven deposits of brake pad material on the rotors, which causes the thickness of the rotor to vary when heated up. This is described on Stoptech's website here.

It's quite possible that you might run into the same problems with aftermarket big brake kits, as some owners have found out.

The way to avoid these problems is to (a) make sure to follow proper break-in procedures any time you change pads or rotors; and (b) make sure to allow the brakes to slowly warm up and slowly cool down any time you use them on the track.

I have a Zanardi which I have taken to the track on several occasions. I have had no fade and no problems, even when others have. The info I see is that the newer NSXs, with the larger brakes, have better stopping power than the older NSXs with a lot of mods. I suspect if there is a limitation it may be the tires, but I am running stock size Toyos (actually 10mm oversize)and they seem to be fine under braking.

Comptech has a front brake package that will fit the OEM Zanardi wheels. They also sell matching rear rotors (drilled) to keep the aesthetics similar from front to rear. I haven't bothered to install them yet, but they were previously installed on Zanardi #10, so they definitely fit. As noted above, unless your favorite track venue is extremely hard on brakes, the 97+ cars, including the Zanardi, don't particularly need a big brake kit.

Let me know if any of you Zanardi owners are upgrading to the big brake kits and can no longer use your Zanardi BBS wheels. I can certainly use another set. :)
