Bought a 92 project car

After stumbling across this "barn find" NSX on Kijiji, my friend & I quickly made plans and went to pick it up last weekend.

It's a 92 that's a theft recovery. Having never owned one before, from what I can tell the parts taken were the hood, bumper, fenders, doors, hatch glass, trunk, tails, seats, armrest & wheels

I'm hoping to use it as a cheap driver/track car. I've owned something like 80-90 different Hondas so far & I have about 15 Integra/Civic/RSX parts cars at the moment. But this is my first NSX.

I thought I'd post here to see if I could get some help & direction in finding parts. I can find most of the stuff here on Prime from the US, but I'd like to buy within Canada to cut shipping costs as much as possible. I think doors are going to be the hardest thing to find.

I'm also trying to read as much as possible about popular aftermarket options, since it seems parts like a CF hood won't run me a ton more than a stock one.

Any help greatly appreciated! (I'll post more pics hopefully by this weekend)

Thanks,
-Dustin

It looks like the parts were carefully removed, so will it be a matter of bolting on new parts and you're good, or will there be more to it?

You'll find the parts here on prime. You've posted on the Parts Wanted section?

Hi there:
Sumeronthechain just purchased a red NSX that had a cf hood and he changed it back to the original. He is located in central Minnesota and I believe he is asking about $500 for it, plus shipping.

Oh wow I have been looking for a project car similar to this as well for over 4years. By chance was this car originally from the U.S? I think I saw this for sale years ago was from San Bernardino area? I couldn't get info on whether it had a motor and transmission in it, or if the title was clear, salvaged, or parts only in order to have car registered properly in Canada? But if your using for track only then I guess it doesn't matter.

Anyway doesn't look too bad from the pics as long as the chassis is good you'll find lots of members and support here for parts etc. I've used Ravi over at Umbrella Auto Design he is a good resource for find used parts in the U.S and more than willing to ship parts to Canada. Not to mentioned many other vendors here with parts from '02 conversions like DF, and SOS. Keep us posted on the re-build and bringing one back from the dead

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm getting a lot more response than I thought from people selling parts.

My main question right now is how much more I'd have to spend on aftermarket stuff vs stock, and what are the popular options. I know the 02+ conversion is more than I'd like to spend.

swbatte: Not much in the way of frame damage from what I can tell. Yes, I've also thrown up an ad in the Parts Wanted section.

Joe Wollbaum: Cool, thanks for the tip. Where in SK are you from?

NSXCessive: Sounds like the same car. Here's a link to the post about it back in '08. From what he told me, the seller bought the car & basically sat on it for 2 1/2 yrs. Has a powertrain, runs & drives. Salvage title but rebuildable.

I was originally looking for an S2K for a project when my friend stumbled across this & tipped me off.

Bram: I think finding a full parts car would be ideal, but it was hard enough to find this one in the first place!

Daria: PM sent

Thanks again,
-Dustin

Hey Richie, maybe he can buy your convertable for parts or you can buy his coupe and make good NSX from both.

Bram

I guess I have parts car for myself right now  We'll see what happens this year still looking to reserrect one from the grave if possible. If not I might look to part it out and free up some valuable garage space.

I have a front bumper and rear driverside quarter panel that need to be painted.

PM me your email address and I'll get some photos to you.
Daria

Hey Daria did you get your 2nd car up and going yet?

Yes it is the same car I was cautious jumping on because of the unknown title status and possible missing drive train. I have a parts car & drive train waiting for the right project car to popup out there. Anyway great find from the sound of it you will have a complete car in no time!

I tell my buddies all the time, good deals will always keep popping up. You just have to be ready by having cash & space to store stuff. If you can afford to hold onto your parts car, eventually you'll stumble across something to fix.

(My brother's going to school in Waterloo, he drives a JDM front GSR that I used to own. Here's a pic when we went to a lapping event the last time I visited:

Sounds like a great project and please start a build thread in the BUILDS forum to keep everyone up to date. This is a very small community and we are here to help with what we can.

I am sympathetic to your cause. I was also specifically looking for a theft recovery car with a solid chasis to modify into a track toy. Its been so far 5 great years with this thing. No garage queen here!

Join the NSXCC and let us in!

Hi Dustin:

I am located in Regina. I am a fairly new member, as I picked up my totaly stock 91 red/black in the beginning of Sept. 2010. Good luck on your restore and if I come across any of the major parts that you are looking for I will PM you.
