I'm considering buying the new bmw i8 vs the 2016 nsx.

Went and test drove the bmw over the weekend. It's soooo amazing. The style blew me away. Plus the price isn't too bad either compared to the unknown 2016 nsx.

So I would like to know, what would u choose?

im gonna wait till they release the nsx this fall. And decide.

Sorta lending towards the bmw, cause what would I do with my old nsx, if I got a new one, plus the bmw is a 4 seater.

Decision 2015......

I think the i8 is truly a breakthrough car with a breakthrough design language. BMW way underpriced it. If you can get one close to sticker, I think it will not only be a fun exotic but will be an asset that appreciates.

I wish it had the range of a Tesla...

I like it but I dont love it. Its a futuristic looking car but it does not really scream sports car to me. In the end buy what appeals to you and drive the hell out of it and enjoy the ride

lol i love the fact that you point out the i8 is a 4 seater... as if anyone uses those... o wait, i have once... besides that here's my judgement of these vehicles bc i actually love to compare the two

i8 pros: very futuristic looking, good use of materials in right places, will always surprise you in capability (except gas mileage) but how much can you really expect from the 3 cylinder, swan wing doors, beautiful imo from almost every angle, its a bmw which doesnt mean much on its own but you get bmw service level quality, which from my experience is almost second to none
cons: it is a bmw, and it will remind you of this all the time, the interior does not really seperate itself that much from the rest of them, and the cool key is already being used for other vehicles, it is slow for the price, you always have to explain what it really is when you stop places

new nsx: cant do pros and cons really because i have no experience but of facts we kno: it is twice the car of the i8, double the cylinders, double the turbos, double the electric motors... it is an acura which means the service will not be amazing by any standard (atleast from my dealer) but the interior is nothing like any of the other cars except for the badge. there is more technology. it will cost more. idk about the i8 but this will likely only be able to be serviced at certain dealers. it will be FAST.

summation:
i8 - will likely be replaced by something, and its a good start but i think it has a lot of improving that is yet to come, overall rating: good car for the money if you have a another supercar in your garage as we have no idea what long term reliability will be like
nsx - i have no clue but it seems like its ready to punch some supercars in the face and then get 40mpgs bc hey, it has a ninth gear

One is a performance supercar the other just looks like one. Even though in some aspects you can compare the two, they will be nothing alike in execution. You are looking at nearly double the power and double the tire as well with the NSX. The BMW was built to show that they can build a high-tech efficient car that can look amazing too. But when it comes to performance... It shares the same engine as the base Mini Cooper. The NSX will undoubtedly get worse fuel mileage but that was never priority number 1 for Acura.

I was considering both of these cars also... and ended up grabbing one of the last R8 V8s!
The i8 design still hasn't grown on me and I figure the first 50k miles of extra fuel guzzled by the R8 will be paid by the savings over what the BMW dealer wanted for one. This also likely means I'm out on that early NSX...:frown:

id be willing to put money on the NSX getting better as it will have a lot more available torque, especially with twin electric motors, and when ive been in i8s, the gas mpg was never good
