My friends 540i (95) engine died and he needs a new one.

" A used motor (w/ 109K miles on it) from Dallas is $2360 and when labor, various parts, tax, etc. to install it is figured in, it comes to a total of about $4800!"

Does that sound about right? The labor sounds way high to me.

Any suggestions?

The price on the motor is probably about right - I saw another one w/ 79K for $2830. Re-manufactured I saw anywhere from $6K to $10K!!!!
The labor sounds very high unless there are a LOT of other parts lumped in there.
Has your friend tried any of the places that will take his engine and re-build it or was it a completely fatal failure? I'd shop around some more.

I'm Not Attacking

Any suggestions?

Even though this thread is in the correct "Off Topic" category within this NSX forum, you will get more / better answers if you post your question to the proper category within the BMW forum.

The reason I know this is that when we were considering a Boxster for my wife, even though there are Porsche owners here, I got more info from the P-forum than from here.

That's why they have different car forums.
