Hello! I was wondering if anyone has blown out their Comptech Muffler. I revved up my motor the other day and noticed a raspy/rattle type sound. I wondered if my Comptech muffler was blown out. Can someone fill me in on what a "blown" muffler sounds like? Thanks for your help!

When my Comptech blew, I had a huge hole in the muffler. You could see it while driving behind me. It was a huge hole! pos

:o I believed that's exactly how I describe the comptech exhaust... yeap, it's POS, but I just don't know if the stupid exhaust sound are from just the 'resonated' tip or the poor design of the muffler, or even the combination of both...

oh well. A lot of people recommend us selling them and then just get some custom mandrel bent pipe...
Problem is, almost most of us already had the comptech complaints about it, who would want them?

I would! For the rigth price, of course.

I'm sure Comptech makes some great products, but their exhausts have a bad reputation for blowing out! I recommend the flowmaster over the comptech anyday!

Huh?

Just curious, can you post the year you purchased the Comptech exhauts, and if you are not the original owner, how old is it and what year NSX are you driving, and forced inductions that you are aware of ........... and they do offer unconditioanl satisfaction guaranteed warranty to the original owners.

These forums have amply covered the issues with the older Comptech exhausts. No need to rehash that. This thread seems to imply this is a new problem and it would not be fair to a vendor's reputation to criticize a product without offerning some more pertinent specifics.

Disclosure: Comptech is a major sponsor of NSXPO 2003 and the Sacramento Chapter of the NSXCA

I've had a Comptech for about 4 years now and it is a wonderful exhaust, with no problems and lots of track use on a '94 NA. I think there may have been problems with some of the earlier model exhausts…

Hrant, your right, I don't want to put down Comptech. I know they make great products for the NSX. My exhaust might have been an old one, I bought it used a few months ago. It looked almost brand new, the owner said it was barely used. I installed it and after 300-400 miles of use(no track time), it blew. No F/I either as it was my first mod to my stock NSX.

Didn't mean to stir-up any drama. I tried searching the various forums for this problem but I couldn't find anything so I thought I would post something. I recently bought a 95 NSX-T that had all of the COmptech bolt-ons. I can search through all of the receipts to find out when the exhasut was purchased. All I wanted to accomplish with this post was to talk with some owners who might have had this "blown muffler" problem with the hopes of diagnosing my muffler problem. I have no ill-will towards Comptech, in fact I am saving up right now for their Supercharger kit.

I personally have owned three Comptech exhausts (two NSX's and one S2000) and I know several other people who own them as well. I've never had a problem with any of mine and I don't know anyone personally who has had one blow, FI or not.

i had a comptech muffler blow out. it happened right after i had a set of headers installed.. so i thought it was a loose bolt at first. there was no hole.. just a loud buzzing, rattling noise that seemed to be louder at certain points throughout the rpm range.
comptech might have solved the problem with their newer exhausts, but i'll never know because i learned my lesson the first time around.
