So since I'm so good at changing clutches my current one decided to mess up on me. Its a rebuilt and beefed up stock twin disk that I'm running on my 91 with Whipple at 9.5 lbs.
Running from first to second yesterday I had a hard time getting into second.
I got scared immediately and took it easy and tried not to shift or stop on my way home. At one light I had to and ran through all the gears nicely.
This morning going to work the same thing. But just for the one shift.
At lunch pulling into the gym parking lot, there was the big squealing sound of metal against a flywheel or what not.
Limped home, the noise did stop after 1/4 mile.
Up on the lift and out came the trans after work.
Everything is fine but the mid-plate let loose one of its flat springs and it was found in three pieces.
I plan to clean everything up, install another mid-plate and reassemble.
Pictures attached.
Wonder why this part failed.
I really thought I broke another spring.
The wear on the pads is great, I have to look how many kilometers are on this clutch, but I'm sure quite a few.

p.s. We do not know how old this clutch was before it was rebuilt....wonder if those flat springs where replaced or not.

Here is a link to a similiar issue, but in this case an initialization might have been the culprit from what Sos is saying. I do not have any studs snapped off. Just one broken spring or strap.
I will install a spare stock mid-plate tomorrow or this weekend.

Note to self: Don't drop the clutch at 3000 rpm anymore. Be a good boy!

Good news is I'm replacing the rebuilt transmission with one fairly new and silky smooth....I'd best shave my face for this boys!

I guessed wrong on installing a stock midplate, that won't work with this modified stock clutch.
Just talked to the boys at Centerforce.....Ratzzzz.
I will just change out the straps then and try that.
Off to the clutch shop tomorrow.
