I was driving my car, when all of a sudden my blower stopped blowing air. I turned off the climate control and turned it back on, but the blower was still silent. Not sure what happened.

Could be a bad belt that needs changing.

The Blower Motor has 1) fuse 2) Main Relay 3) Power Transistor 4) High Speed Relay 5) Climate Control Unit. The loss of 1) or 2) will stop the Blower Motor. The loss of 3) will disable all speeds below High, if I remember. The loss of 4) will kill High Speed, and the malfunction of 5) may produce different symptoms, such as always High Speed, or no function at all. This assumes the wiring is good.

If you do not do electrical troubleshooting, and/or do not have a Service Manual, you will need to have someone look at it for you, if the problem is worse than a fuse. After checking the fuse, you could connect the ground side of the Blower Motor to chassis ground (with power on). The Blower will run full speed if the Main Relay and Motor are good. If they work, then go from there.

Bill

Thanks for the reply, fellas. I got the chance to diagnose the problem as I got home. The fuses are okay. Appears the blower works only on high speed. As I turn the knob down to a lower speed, the blower stops blowing, however I can still hear the motor running.

Are you sure you are not hearing the small fan used for cabin temperature sensing? I would be very surprised if no air at all comes out of any vent with the Blower running. It's just not made to let that happen, unless there is some weird control door setting that I'm unaware of illegally creeping in. I would, however, consider option 3) above, as this a very common failure.

Good luck,

Bill

Someone who knows how to use a multimeter and the wiring diagram will need to check the voltage on the Black/Blue wire going to the Power Transistor while you are trying to operate the Blower manually. Turn the Speed Control knob toward 'High' while monitoring that wire. I suspect it will remain near 12 volts, when it should go much closer to zero volts when almost to 'High'. If not, the Power Transistor is probably bad. I would suggest removing the Power Transistor and measuring the Light Green/Black lead under the same conditions as above. It should noticeably increase in voltage as you turn the Speed Control toward 'High". If not, the CCU may be bad. If it does increase, the Power Transistor is likely bad. An Electronic Tech should be able to test the Power Transistor with an Ohmmeter to verify the failure.

Good luck,

Bill

replace the transitor. Search the service bulletins for the A/C blower. I just replaced mine tonight. It was a snap. Good luck. BTW it works like new

Chudson, how much did the transistor cost you? How long did it take to replace?

Sorry for the delay. It ran about $170.00 from Niello. Go figureI can parts cheaper from Cali. than in my own back door. Anyway, because this was the first time I had the blower out, I was cleaning behind it, around it, it..you get the idea. SO time wise about an hour tops if I wasn't cleaning the dirt. The unit works fine, however I am looking to replace my control unit in the future. I just had a bulb blow in it and replaced it but I feel it is one it's last leg.

Hello,

I also encounterd a similar problem that codered experienced. I started my car when all of a sudden my blower stopped blowing air. I turned off the climate control and turned it back on, but the blower was still not blowing any air. After a few minutes, it came on and worked perfect. The next day it worked fine, stopped to get something to eat, got back into car and the damn thing stopped working again. Nothing would happen when I pushed the buttons, the only thing I would hear is a small faint sqeaky sound. About 10 minutes later the a/c comes on and works fine. This has happened to me about 5 times in the last week. This is getting very frustrating due to the hot Florida temperatures. Any input would greatly be apperciated.

Regards,
Danny

DannyC:

Does your CCU display look normal when the failure is happening? Does your compressor clutch kick in when you are set up for and expecting cold air? If so, then I advise you to carefully follow the steps I have posted both in this topic and in:
http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000598.html

This may be an ambient temperature problem, causing a bad solder joint or shaky connection to fail. Does it always seem to happen when you have had the car parked on a hot day? A multimeter and wiring diagram are really the best way to trace the problem, but will only help you determine the failure during actual no-blower conditions.

Good luck,

Bill
