Bloody Chainsaw=immigration approval

Umm wow. Scary looking dude. They turn away Cubans on a truck-boat, but let in a modern day chain massacre guy....makes sense? I guess it isn't a crime to carry around a bloody chainsaw, but still, you think they would have held and questioned him. Where were these "700 kills" done at? What army?

Just another example of how the law and common sense have nothing to do with each other. Our laws here have become a mockey of how to handle real life situations. This never would have happened 60 years ago.

that dude looks normal

Guys...while I agree that this guy is most likely a nut job, after 2 hours of questioning him and looking for reasons to detain him, they found nothing. What would you like them to do, arrest everyone for looking odd? With no way to tell if it was even blood on the chainsaw, there was no actual evidence that warranted holding him longer than the 2 hours that they did.

That's a good point, but:

Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw...

They let him into the country even though he had all this stuff. Try walking into an airport similarly equipped and you'll surely be sacked. Why is the border more lax than an airport?

Well, I suspect because you can hijack a plane with a knife and such, you most likely cannot hijack a border crossing by yourself with a knife. Plus, airport rules and laws strictly forbid this kind of stuff unless you have your items in checked baggage. You can transport knives and such on airplanes, but they must be in checked baggage, you cannot have them with you when you get on the plane.

Again, I do agree this guy is probably guilty of something, but unless he is specifically breaking a law or they have hard proof that he has done something wrong, they had no reason to detain him past the 2 hours that they did. We have to look at the big picture and think about how many people cross the borders every day, and if they arrested everyone that looked odd, or was bringing back the chainsaw they innocently borrowed from their dad, we would have one scary place to live. Remember, it is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. As far as the people at the border could tell he had not broken any laws. They TRIED to find a reason to arrest him or detain him further. It even says that in the article.
