bleeding coolant

My coolant hose blew out and am wondering how important it is to bleed the system when adding new coolant? It was one of the two main hoses below the coolant reservoir.

i believe that if you have air in the coolant lines, your water pump won't pump correctly and you'll probably overheat since your not circulating coolant.
