Was re-inspecting estimates at Modern Auto Body in Glendale today and I hear this awesome exhaust note behind me. I turn around and it's one of the porters pulling up in a black NA1. I take a break and look at the vehicle. Rolling on 18/19 Racing Hart C4's and had red leather interior. Beautiful car. Awesome condition for a 91. Especially the leather. No cracks at all.

My question is, did black NA1's ever have red leather as an option? I know that NA2's offer the combo.

most likely reupholstered seats...

'91-'01 NSX'es did not have red-interior option.
{'91-'93: ivory/off-white & Onyx/black interior choices, '94+: tan replaces ivory/off-white}

'02-'05 NSX'es did have red-interior option w/ Berlina black & New Forumula red.
{interior choices matched to exterior were expanded to: yellow, blue, red, orange, white, silver/grey, along w/ tan/camel and onyx/black}

Nota bene:

NA1 & NA2 can be confusing designations. They refer to the NSX motor (NA1 = 3.0 offered in '91-'96 & NA2 = 3.2 offered in '97-'05, in the US market). These references (NA1, NA2) do not refer to the NSX body-style (ie. '91-'01 flip-up lights vs. '02-'05 fixed-lights/face-lift)

Thanks for the clarification :smile: So he must have taken the seats from a 02-05. The leather looked exactly like the stock leather.

I'd presume aftermarket-leather on OEM seats...

You'd be very surprised that it might be original OEM seats simply re-covered in new-custom leather from an experienced shop! There have been quite a few group-buys on 'Prime from various vendors who make custom-NSX seat coverings that are fabricated to OEM specs, and can be personalized w/ various colored trims, embroidery, perforation, or alcantera. The end-results have been very nice.

When my seat's leather covers are ready to retire, I plan on doing the same... except sticking w/ onyx-leather and going w/ perforation-insterts and alacantera bolsters! :cool:

Only reason I'd think they might not be '02-'05 OEM red-leather seats is because each seat runs $5-6k... :eek:

Don't forget automatic NSXs are all NA1s (91-05).
