Hi ppl,
I currently have AT&T as my wirless service provider...Honestly, I am not satisfied with the service at all. I am probably looking for a new service provider next month and want some of your opinions.
NEXTEL, T-MOBILE, SPRINT, CIGULAR, or VERIZON?
I need some good-reception!!
JACK

I recommend T-Mobile w/ most minutes, or Sprint PCS for Vision, and maybe Verizon for coverage.

I like my nextel ....its great in the areas where i use it.Russ get a up dated model..there phasing out the i1000 soon...i wonder why...lol.

But if i was looking for a wireless service i would ask people around me where i intend to use it how there service is in that area.
Ask to see a local coverage area map as well and ask if they have alot of cell towers in that area? .... yes i would like a phone plan with alot of minutes for the buck.....but for me the service is much more important then how many minutes they offer because what good is a phone if you cant make or recieve a call...let me stop here because im starting to sound like a commercial.

I also use "NEXT-HELL"

aaarrrrggghhh!!! great wireless service is DEFINATELY AN OXYMORON!!! I have over 3k minutes usage per month, have tried every service except satellite phone, and can unequivocally say they are all lousy in their own right. However, the least lousy in my experience is Sprint. good luck.

Thx guys,
I am leaning towards Sprint, since they have a good plan now (Yes, mobile to mobile free)....does anyone else have any good experience with Sprint besdies Huck?
Thx again,
JACK

I use Nextel since I work on their system and it's free for me. One good thing about Nextel is that Nationwide Dispatch(or walkie talkie...that sounds so stupid!) is coming. Currently, only Boston and California is equipped to make long distance dispatch calls but by the end of this year, many of the markets will be doing the same. Soon enough, you can dispatch NSXers nationwide! Their coverage is not the best but I think is comparable to other carriers.

But if you want "Cute" phones with cameras, you should get Verizon or ATT. My GF has Sprint and it's not bad but in rural area or suburbia where towers are scarce, coverage deteriolates quickly.

Had Sprint for ~4 years now. Definately look at their map for coverage prior to getting service as its totally hit or miss. I threatened to leave last year so they offered me: 1000 anytime, 3000 n/w for $50/mos. Had to sign a contract for 1 year though. The coverage areas have grown/reception improved alot since initial service and figure it can only get better.

There are two sad truths when it comes to wireless service.

The first is that it doesn't really exist. All the wireless companies are pretty much crap and none of them really have "customer service".

The second is that the quality of the coverage and customer service you will get from any company will vary tremendously upon where you live, and where you will use the phone.

For example, I understand from family and friends in the Bay Area (N. CA) that AT&T has great coverage and reasonable customer service in that area. Well, they're terrible here in S. Orange County, CA.

At the same time, Verizon is pretty good here in S. Orange County while it is awful in the Bay Area.

I personally had very bad luck with AT&T. It was expensive, and I had a lot of dropped calls. Sometimes, I had no coverage at all (even in very populated areas like the Hudson Valley of NY). Verizon, on the other hand (knocking on wood), has thus far been great. Good plans, good rates, good phones, and no issues.

I'm in the same boat as jackmac.....been feverishly trying to find a decent package/provider. I currently use Sprint and can't stand their service. In my area I drop at least one call a day. I was looking into Nextel, but they are so much more expensive.....you get what you pay for? I'm suprised to hear people are dropping calls with Nextel, I thought they had the best coverage of any provider. I just can't find a decent package with ANY of these providers. They all seem to have some little quirks on a good looking package which make it rediculous. Someone help us. :\

EDIT: Started reading the HowardForums link provided above....looking at the sprint vs. verizon thread. Looks like about half the people with Sprint currently are saying they are going to Verizon when their contract is up, and half of the people with Verizon currently are saying they are going to Sprint when their contract is up. Arg.

Yes, I like my Sprint service here in Phoenix. But as others have said, it really depends on the cell tower availability in your area. I dumped AT&T and VoiceStream (now T-Mobile) due to poor reception, and I would love to ditch my Nextel as well--but it's work provided and I have no choice there. FWIW, I have one of those bulky i1000+ handsets, and even my coworkers with newer handsets experience poor reception with Nextel here. YMMV.
