BEST PRICE ON COMPTECH WIDEBODY FOR NSX?

ICBW, but I believe you can buy Comptech items from Acura dealers and independent dealers as well as from Comptech, and that each is able to charge whatever price he wants. I believe Chris from Science of Speed has stated here that he offers great prices on Comptech stuff.

Why pay the theives at Comptech or even worse, the charlatan resellers? Go to Home Depot and get about 50 lbs of fiberglass. Steal a Ferrari or Lamborghini and copy the lines. It's easy - just lay your fiberglass on the 'donor' body, let it harden and presto - instant widebody. This really works - I saw it on a website!!!!!

just curious -- if you were repairing a crashed/damaged NSX, would aftermarket parts still be cheaper than new OEM panels ??

As far as the DIY bodykit goes, I've seen this done too, although its not as simple as Soichiro implies. You still want to engage a shop (or intermediary charlatan, ideally one with access to a wind tunnel

) to help you figure out mounting points, and panel clearances, etc).

Done right it CAN look sharp. I probably wouldn't use a Lambo/Ferrari -- end up with undercooked risotto

When mine got pummeled by an SUV, the difference between an oem repair and the CT widebody was $2K out of pocket. The parts were about the same as oem, but there was a bit more labor.

In general, aftermarket parts are less. For example, the stock quarters list at about $1200 each. In contrast, the TAITEC JGTC Wide Rear Quarters are $1748.00 for the pair including shipping from Japan.

Cheers,
-- Chris

Was the Comptech Widebody a direct bolt on, or did your body shop have to do tons of modifications to make it fit. I actually want to do a 2002 nsx headlight conversion with the Comptech Kit

Anyone looking for a "donor" Silver hood for conversion, please private me at [email protected]

I'd agree!

Sounds like we're taking a poll here, but only those who actually own one are voting. Not exactly representative...

I called Comptech once to inquire about a wide body kit and the person on the phone said it takes over 100 hrs (I think it says that on their web site too) to install, fit/refinish. That is way over the oem part time so my customer decided to pass. I figured it would need more refinish time over oem to surface the panels but their install projections were out of sight. They told me the kit was kind of rough and needed quite a bit of work to make it fit and look right. I had no choice but to believe them having seen fiberglass kits and add ons for other cars. They usually need a good deal of shaping and some fabricating to look correct.
Wish we had known it was a bolt on with only pinholes to deal with.

What other kind of hood are available out there. I rather get a fiberglass then the stock OEM metal hood, since I am going to be putting the 2002 headlight conversion in. I wish someone had a 2002 hood manufacture in carbon fiber or something.

With a total expected potential customer base of 400 cars, it's unlikely that anyone would be foolish enough to spend the money to develop one, with such dim prospects of sufficient sales to recoup the development costs.
