I don't need any yet, but probably will before long. I searched a bit and didn't find a clear answer. I bought some touchup paint and a replacement key last week at McDavid and the parts guy said they have a couple of NSX specialists. Of course there is Sterling Acura.

What do you Austin area guys do for service? Any independents? Do you change your own oil or get it done some(where?)

It's definately NOT Sterling. I've always taken my car to David McDavid to fix problems I've had going elsewhere. They do have experience, they may not be the best, but I don't know of a better option, personally. There used to be one or two independant guys that were good on NSXs, but I don't think they're around anymore.

Oil changes -- DMcD will usually do an oil change for around $30 on a special or coupon. Can't beat that. I wouldn't go to a quickie lube kind of place. I made that bad decision once.

I got my clutch replaced at David McDavid last month. Quite expensive, but I wanted it done right. My NSX'es service history is mostly Goodson Acura (Greater Dallas) and David McDavid (Austin).

There is no independant mechanic that I know of in the Greater Austin area whom I can recommend. However for A/C and body work, there is D&H out in Hutto that do a reasonable job.

Boostlogic and Protech are two well-known import/tuning shops around town.

I have had work done at McDavid. Had my timing belt done there about 2 years ago. Have had some other minor work done there and have been happy with the service, it is just expensive. As for oil changes I do mine myself.

Thinking of trying these folks out:
http://www.jcautospec.com/

They have worked on my wife's WRX and work and many performance/race cars. Spoken with them and they do have some NSX experiance. Probably will try them for my 60k service.

hofffam...were you in the arboretum area today, was there around lunch time and saw a red NSX and was wondering whose it was.

I WAS in the Arboretum area at lunch. I work at Braker and Jollyville. Ran some errands at Best Buy during lunch. So it was probably me.... I didn't see another NSX today. You must have been driving something else.....

Please let me know if you have jcautospec do any work for you.

Can you send me a PM about the cost of your timing belt service if you remember? I may need to carve out some funds for it next year.

The next time I need routine work performed on my NSX, I think I will try the place NormRD mentioned, JC Automotive Specialist. The estimates were accurate, communication good, they seemed honest, competent, and the price was fair...

The starter on my SC400 finally died last week. I have no problem replacing the starter on my other cars, but none of my other cars bury the starter below all this junk. :) So I called several shops for estimates. JC's estimate seemed pretty reasonable, about 20% less time than the dealer, so I dropped the car off there.

As they were checking everything out after replacing the starter, a check engine light was thrown. They called me, asked if I knew about it. I never had a CEL before, so they said they would investigate. A short while later, they said the CEL was for for the coolant temperature sensor and found the resistance was out of spec. I was told I could get by without replacing it - it would just result in less than smooth cold idle. I asked them to replace it. They explained everything in detail and let me make the decision with zero pressure. Why can't more places me like this?

When they called to tell me the car was ready, they mentioned they did not have to replace the sensor after all. As they were putting the new sensor in, the mechanic noticed a small fray in the original sensor wire (or something like that). He fixed it, saving ~$200 on the sensor. In my experience, not all shops are this honest. Also, they ended up completing everything quicker than they originally estimated, saving ~$50.

BTW: It looks like their site is down right now, but you can get contact info and map on Citysearch. I noticed they've received many positive reviews.

Great to hear....i know when we brought the wife's WRX (radiator needed replacement) we received the same type of attention and service. I have also had them preform a several PPI's for both a car i was selling and buying.
