I've read a post saying that aladdin is the best alarm but nobody in NYC carries that. they only have viper or Clifford. Which one should I go with. All my previous cars had viper and has been good. But clifford offers a pager so I like it cuz of that feature. Anybody care to share their thoughts? thanks in advance

If your not concerned with the price i would go with the compustar spread spectrum alarm system .... its range is at least double that of the competitions and is reflected in the price.Installation and alarm will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of 650 to 1000. But make sure its the spread spectrum one as they also make a fm model with less range. www.compustar.org

i'm getting the viper pager alarm installed in a couple of weeks. didn't do too much research, just going by recommendation of my stereo guy. it's not the most expensive unit on the markety, but supposed to be pretty good. i'll give the review once i get it installed.

I just got off the fone with the guy who did my previous cars. he said that they don't carry the viper 790 cuz the remote is uggly cuz it's white. They carry the Marksman? which has a lcd screen and shows everything on the car. anybody hear about this? they are charging $500 installed. what do you think guys?

Dude you live in brooklyn....dont you want the alarm with the best range to the pager ?

Personally an alarm with limted range is like a pen without ink.

I like the Viper or Clifford always heard good stuff.

Does anyone know whats wrong- my alarm will unlock the doors with the remote, but when I try to lock them with the remote, the alarm arms itself, but the door locks dont go down...just noticed today...anyone???

thnks

Sounds like it might be programmed for passive locking &/or passive arming - if you leave it alone, after arming it with the remote, does it lock after a little while? Or does it lock if you press the button again?
If that is the case, refer to the manual & re-program it for active locking & active arming if you prefer it that way.
DEI (makers of Viper, Clifford, Python etc) has an excellent on-line manual section on their web-site - I downloaded mine from there, very useful.
See here - http://www.directed.com/guides/ogs.asp

Thanks for the link Descose..Unfortunately I dont know the actual model # as it came with the car, I am for sure though that it did use to lock the doors after I press the button, now it just beeps...I was thinking if there is any way to reset it.thanks

Hi Madfast,
I purchased the Aladdin alarm system a few months ago, and installed it myself. It's an awesome alarm for the money, but the install was difficult. However, once I got it right, every feature works flawlessly. It's got the two-way pager of a quarter mile (although I've been generally getting much less of a range than that), remote engine start, auto trunk release, passive arming, dual shock sensor, etc. You can read more about the features by doing a google search for the Aladdin 2000. I'm planning on stopping by the SF Bay Area monthly meeting either in December or January, so perhaps anyone who is interested in seeing it here in NorCal can see me there.
Take Care,
J.

Any chance you documented the install? Some pictures would be great, and an installation document would be even better!

Madfast,
I have the Clifford 600 system installed including the anti-carjack option. So far I've been very happy with it.
After a minor accident the car had to be moved by trailer and then repaired and I had the guys from the repair-company on the phone serveral times because the alarm kept going off because they were trying to move/lift the car or had done other things which made the alarm go off all the time.

I'm sorry Mojo. Unfortunately, I do not have any documentation. I am confident that I can install a NSX within a day, but this would only be beneficial if you lived here in the SF Bay Area. I think a guy in SoCal is working on some documentation. He said he'll let me know when he is done.

Take Care,
J.

It's my pleasure. Good luck finding the right alarm for you.

i think there is nothing better or more useful than Lojack. tracks down your car instantly when stolen.

I used to think that.
Then I looked into TeleTrac. (Used by trucking companies to track the location of their fleet nationwide)
It works like LoJack but instead of taking a passive stance (activated only AFTER the car is stolen) Teletrac uses a tracking system where you can call an 800 number and will tell exactly where your car is, anytime and anywhere. When your car is stolen, it will also tell you where the car is headed (gives names of streets/fwy) and at what speed. When the car stops, the system tells the police the exact address of where it is.

I don't have this and I'm no expert in the system itself. This is just what I found out during my research. But I'm pondering on getting this over LoJack.

If your interested in spending alittle more ...like 650 i know somewhere in jersey that will do either the viper or compustar for that price .

The actual type of alarm you buy is about 20% of your security. 80% of it is the install. I could probably get through 80% of the alarms out there faster than you could get in your car with the remote. If you want something that is similiar to the Aladdin buy the Avantguard by Clifford. A pager can be bought and added anytime. If anyone wants tracking I recommend www.securatrak.com $5.00/month for 24/7 tracking.

Clifford and Viper are owned by the same company DEI. Clifford went bankrupt.
