Best Acura Manager in SOCAL to deal with? Acura in Laguna Niguel is trying not to fix

I know there are some Acura Managers here in SOCAL here that are on Prime, but I don't remember anyone from the top of my head.

Our 01 Type R has a leak in the engine that causes oil to be burned when VTEC opens. The leak is pretty bad, losing about a quart of engine oil in a day.

Acura of Laguna Niguel is saying that they are needing more proof to do the valve job to fix this problem, but I think they are just not wanting to fix it under warranty.

The problem is there and its serious, so I might just take it to another Acura dealer with someone here on Prime with some pull.

This needs to be done first before we do headwork on the Type R, so we want to get this done ASAP.

Appreciate any information. Thanks.

I have only dealt with that dealership (in a parts-buying situation, I felt there prices were high), I believe they are located in Mission Viejo?

Sorry about your situation, I would recommend perhaps going to South Coast Acura with the car? They seem to be 'good folk', and host a monthly nsx meet - perhaps they could shed further light on the situation, or in any case serve as a solid second opinion? If work does need to be done, and it is not covered under warrenty, I would strongly recommend Ramon at Niguel motors, he is the person that services my nsx, and is right in the area (with very reasonable pricing).

A quart A DAY???!!! Please tell me there's plenty of proof! I don't understand the engine well enough. Where exactly is the leak coming from and how is it getting to the combustion chamber?

Jon Martin at Cerritos Acura or maybe South Coast Acura would be my suggestions.

Yeah the leak is pretty extreme.

Acura of Laguna Niguel will be inspecting the car for the 3rd time after driving, so we will see if they will comply on this visit. If not, I will have to rely on someone's contact here, because the leak is apparent.

We will see.

How do you still have a 01 with warranty left?

And if you are going to do 'head work' on it, why do you care if it needs a valve job?

Just wonderin because when I was lookin for type r's i never saw any certified ones...

According to Maxx the Service Manager at Norm Reeve Acura in Laguna Niguel, he beleives that it's leaking from the valve seal.

I have gone through 2 consumption test already which obviously reads that the engine is burning oil. They are making me go through one more test which I feel it is not neccesary since it's certain that there is something wrong.

Any sales manager that could resolve this problem for me would be greatly appreciated.

That makes sense, I just wasn't sure how VTEC was involved. Hope you get it covered.

I think you mean Jon ;) but either way Matt is a great guy too. You can't go wrong with either guys. For me it will be Jon Martin but I have heard good things about Matt at Planet.

Bummer. If this is Max Fowler you're dealing with he's usually very good. Unfortunately, he only has one well trained NSX tech on staff (I think his name is Mike) but in my experience Max has always been good to work with (Max was the service manager at Cerritos Acura in the early 90's and he helped me with my 1st Gen Integra GS-R and my Legend Coupe LS 6 speed). Hopefully, he will see you through.

If not, I have had good experiences with Jon Martin and his crew at Cerritos Acura. It's a stupid, long drive from our neck of the woods but he's taken very good care of me.

I "know" Matt from my days on S2ki.com. He's helped two friends of mine buy new cars (at Honda World) and he's got a very solid reputation for taking care of customers on that board. I know he's new to our world but I suspect he'd take good care of you too.
